Jeep ZJ Laredo?

I have a chance to grab two ZJ models (94 & 95) and would like any feedback from others who have / had them.
Pros and cons and what to look out for when I go to check them out. Any known trouble areas? Both of them have the 5.2 V8 engines.
My idea is just a reliable short to medium excursion vehicle, nothing extreme.

Any info is appreciated.

I got my wife a ZJ and we love going wheeling in it. We are still modifying it but its a really fun vehicle. It has the 4.0 in the one we have so I dont know much of the 5.2s. They are good once you figure out storage. I am building a roof rack for my wifes and swing out tire carrier to open up more space inside.

Thanks for the reply elpoffroad. This one would be for the wife as well. I've been checking out your build (very nice!) and it looks close to what we would need. I've never had a need for a roof rack but I'm thinking it's necessary. I'll be watching what you do for the tire carrier. Does that awning room have a floor like a tent or is it just walls?

Drive them in a tight circle in four low...that give you a sense of whether the clutch pack is shot in the 249. If I recall, the Jeep will lurch and not seem smooth.

Check the leaks at the rear main seal.

Feel the floor on the right side after running the air or heat...sometimes water can leak there.

Test the blinkers with the lights on...fast blink typically signals a voltage issue somehwere.

I had one with 5.5 iro lift on it with 33s had the 4.0 in it and nothing seemed to stop it
