Jerry Can Spouts

The old screw on style. Are these still available anywhere? I just came across ten or so of the older all metal cans that are in good shape. I just can't seem to find any spouts.

What diameter? Or is it standard?

[Edit] Just checked...two spouts. Appear to be 2-1/4" base. One is about 1" dia and the other about 1/2" dia flexible neck.

GANS (General Army Navy Surplus) on Redwood in T-Ville has had them in the past. Plenty of online retailers with them too

if you cant find the spouts (northerntool.com might be a good place to check) then you can make your own from pipe fittings from home depot.

get a 2 (2 1/2??) inch to 1/2 inch adapter, a 1/2" threaded FxF 45deg fitting and 2 1/2" pipe nipples, whatever length you want. when you put it all together it gives you a pour spout that will still fit into a standard 3/4" filler neck on a car.

I have been working on a new product for this very application so far I have one that is for Diesel sized tank fillers.

It has an o-ring, This spout will not leak!

Its makes fill ups allot easier because of the forgiving nature of the Curb pump hose I use and has great adaptability with bras pipe crimped to each end.

I haven't got around to having my machine shop machine one for smaller hoses let me know if you are interested I will shoot you a price.

Check your local Ace Hardware store.Our local one(Gillette Wy.)has cans spouts and bolt on brackets in stock.6 of each!

I like the new potential application as pretty much all old Bitz style (the original style) leak. For that reason I'd avoid buying more these. I have two good ones (assuming I still have them, didn't junk them) that I'll just give you.

Blitz spouts

Ditto on the spouts at the true value / Trinidad Builders supply in Trinidad, Co.

I have a couple of the Blitz cans that have worked for a very long time. I did notice one had developed a rusty looking bottom. Any suggestions on cleaning it up as opposed to just tossing it at the land fill?

Last but not least, does anyone have the measurements for the wedco / NATO cans? I emailed the manufacturer but no reply. I like my current racks and would hate to figure something else out.

I long ago gave up on spouts for my cans. I use a super siphon nowadays, and have never missed those leaky and slow spouts.

A siphon uses gravity, by definition. I would rather not undo a bunch of over-center binding straps on my 11' roof and carry full jerrycans down a ladder and then manually lift them to pour them into fuel tanks, then climb back up the ladder to replace them. I think siphoning will be quite fast with a 7' pressure head, in the rare occaison I have them filled.
But I think your invention is fantastic for blitz cans, they leak the most when emptying.
How does air ventilate into the can with your invention?

Well you got me there, your right climbing up and down with an awkward can of fuel would be a pain. I got to get me one of those super siphons, maybe at the next Overland Expo. The original blitz cans had a buil in vent tube, a very ingenious and sturdy set up, but the new cans you find at ace ar not vented in the can but in the crappy plastic spout. I supossed I am about 25 years to late with my "invention" but then again I was born in '84.
