jet chip

I run a stock engine, with a "rocket" intake tube. Am I going to waste my money installing a Stage 1 Jet Chip? I'm looking for better fuel mileage & some pulling power at highway speeds. Considered a turbo, for about as long as it took me to price one,,, oouch! I know miracles don't exist under the hood, but,, if the jet chip provides just enough hp to keep me from having to downshifting @ the slightest grade, and gets me 1 more mpg,,,,, well thats a good thing and money well spent,,,, if not hmmmmm.... time for a snorkel,,

get some different gears for the axles. its the easiest way to get some power out of your vehicle.

Regear and check this intake out
By brother purchased one and loves it.
He says it did make a seat of the pants diffrence in
HP and he has seen a increase in millage on the hwy.
I have the same intake as you because of my OBA
In Im working on putting the stock back on some how.
The nice thing about this system is that it is a true cold air intake and as a plus it cleans the intake air to the jeeps ventalation system.

Thanks,,, I checked out the cold air intake system,,, I like that set up really well,,,, I'm running 4/11's with 33" tires, I think well within desired ratios for the 4.0. 33's are plenty tall for the type of wheelin we are into, and Chrysler is cool with them as well.

4.11s is a little high for 33s. 4.56s would be better. I wouldn't spend the money on re-gearing though.

From doing some research of my own I found that the JET chip is a complete waste for a Jeep. The PCMs are designed to adjust their parameters automatically and the JET chip piggybacks the factory PCM. A Superchips Tuner actually rewrites the PCM so that the computer wont adjust to the changes.

You might find something you want to do, but it sounds like you're pretty well set in that area. How are you on rock rails/armor, lights, etc?

Im not an expert (except on the inter-webz) but Ive spent about 5 years working on straight sixes. Here is what I've learned. They are not rockets and unless you set out to build one JUST for the drag strip, they never will be. However, they will outlast the body and chassis of what ever vehicle they are put in. Keeping the RPMs low and taking your time will give you better MPGS than any part you can buy. Have you replaced the vacuum lines? I read in some car magazine that broken or leaky vacuum lines will eat about 2-3 MPG.

Henry,, that is a great article,, nice to see I have the same intake tube and filter that they have in the photo,, cat back exhaust is in my future, I just don't like the noisy ones, so I'll have to start shopping now. It's also nice to see that JP magazine has a worthwhile article on occasion. I quit my subscription to their rag over 4 years ago.
