JK 4-door to 2-door long wheelbase conversion.....

If they release the JK with a diesel I will find out....

If not, it would probably be a ways off. Maybe a used 2012 in a few years and swap a lot of other stuff out :) I'm pretty interested to see how a 5.7 VVT Hemi motor would do with the new 2012 automatic......and Powerwagon axles.....and 40" tires with only 2.5" of lift...

Remember a friend will listen to your crazy idea, and ask "Are you sure you want to do that...?"

An enemy will love to watch you struggle...

and a TRUE friend will be there next to you with the saw asking what to cut next...

I like his idea and I think it could work, just a lot of research and development with some trial and error. If I had the money, space, skills, and JK, I would be problem solving this instead of yapping about it here.

Tru that!

Maybe I have had my fair share of projects over there years, and rather go out an enjoy the scenery with my buddies than being stuck in the garage building something that is only kinda better (or worse depending on how you look at it) than what I started with. Not getting younger and the World is most definitely wasting away....rather just turn the key and go.

Unfortunately I am stuck at work...and these inter-google-machine ramblings are fun to past the time until the next trip.

Yea, I hear you, I am just passing the time between mods so I can take my first REAL trip... getting tired of these mini trips in the backyard.

Yep....and it is ok to question a person why they are doing what they're doing....:ylsmoke: Always good to look at both sides of the coin.

I sure had my fair share of wild ideas...some good, some not so good...

I have had some crazy ideas for vehicles I have owned... like a 3 inch lift, 31s, and 4WD in the 95 mustang I owned at one point... though it has been done on a mustang, it was an older one that hade a body on frame, not seen the unibody version dont yet.

Back to topic, sorry bout the hijack.

How about dissecting the rear doors, remove the outer padded panel and door grips, and see how much space you have left?

Making the rear window a fixed one that doesn't roll down, remove the winder mechanism, motor and door intrusion/impact beam and you'd gain a bit of extra space. Fully reversible too, all you need is a pair of spare rear doors :p

You'd retain the factory seals, and have a lot less work than making a new top.

I do like the look of the 3-door you're envisioning. My buddy had an older (90s?) 4Runner 3-door and it was pretty cool. Now a modern vehicle with SAS up front < drool >

Or you could wait for Jeep to put the J12 concept into production. It's based on a Wrangler Unlimited with lengthened wheelbase, and 6 foot bed. More at

Oh you know better than that Haven...any time the factory builds a concept we want, it never goes into production.

If by some miracle it does go in to production...I am running to the dealership and buying one...and I am a hardcore Toyota guy.

The J12 is the most "production ready" of the Jeep pickup concepts I've seen in the last few years. The 6 foot bed is a useful length, and the changes to the Wrangler frame are not hard for the factory to do. Now the only problem is the lack of extra capacity at the plant where the Wranglers are built.

There still needs to be an extra cab, and a crew cab version to make it viable in today's market. IE competition for the Tacoma...and since the Durango truck is no longer in production...

Toss in a fuel efficient diesel, I'll betcha it takes sales away from the Tacoma.

Still think it will never see the showroom floor. (Jeep please prove me wrong)
