Someone just posted this on another forum. At first I thought "is it for real this time?", then I realized Chrysler has never said they were going to sell a JK pickup here, only shown concepts. The "source" wouldn't be making stuff up would he??

A version of a Jeep pickup shown to Chrysler dealers during a recent dealers meeting in Orlando, Fla., has been greenlit for production, according to PickupTrucks.com sources.
On Tuesday, Jeep CEO Mike Manley reportedly showed dealers a pickup truck that’s said to closely resemble the well-received Jeep Gladiator concept from 2005.
Industry sources have told us that production of the Jeep pickup is expected to start in the third quarter of 2011, with the pickup badged as a 2012 model. It’s said to be based on the four-door Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited platform but with a two-door regular cab configuration with extra space behind the front seats for storage.
Jeep hasn't offered a pickup for sale to consumers in North America since the 1992 Jeep Comanche ended production.
Manley told PickupTrucks.com in June that he was interested in small pickup trucks because of their popularity worldwide.
Todd Goyer, head of Jeep brand communication and product planning, said the company had no comment about the news of a Jeep pickup.
Our friends at FourWheeler are hearing similar rumblings about a Jeep pickup.

Kind of strange how the article keeps referring to the Gladiator concept without mentioning the J8, which is what a pickup based on the JKU would actually resemble.

If it comes with a package similar to the Rubicon for the Wranglers I will buy one. (Basically the Power Wagon's little brother.) The newer V6 will probably do OK in a pickup, but a diesel would be rock...

If I were a betting man I'd say that if they do this it'll be a Ram with different sheet metal.

They won't do a JK based truck because general consumers don't want it.

I hope I'm wrong though. A JK crewie with a ~4'-5' box might be interesting.

Yeah, the problem with the H3T wasn't so much the format as much as the truck itself. There are people that would never buy a H3 regardless of how good the product was (I'm not one of them - thought the H3 was a great truck).

The H3 was too ostentatious for a lot of buyers.

Hummer tried that with the H3T and it didn't work out very well. Of course the company was already going under, so maybe it was just too little too late...

The H3T seemed too long for me. I am a big fan of the H3 though... v8, f/r lockers and 4:1...:drool: too bad visibility sucks out the gun slit windows :(
