Hey jnich.....are you from FL?

When I bought my JJ there was a guy from FL on here that had a highly customized JJ. I think he exteneded his and many other mods.

As soon as I bought my JJ and looked for the thread it was gone. Had some great ideas.

Yep, twas me...lol.

This is a good thread that I'll subscribe to. I originally saw the JJ in Overland Journal, and it looks like the perfect solution for me. I'll have to see how wide it is, and my MAX IV with tracks on it is almost 7' wide.

EDIT: aww dang, it is too narrow.

Can someone please tell me the width edge to edge on the top rails? The MAX may have to overhang a bit.

Definitely interested in that thread as well for wheel replacement. Saw some guy had plumbed some propane quick connects too which was another great thing to think about. Restore the thread! :wings: Or at least give us a new thread with "final" pics and a list of all the stuff you did

I'm not sure the wheels were replaced on his trailer but it was definitely a great build. If I remember he put A/C in the tent as well.

Please post some pics if you still have them!

il guy you have a build thread somewhere you can link in to this one?

LOL! Currently mine is stock......waiting on you....

Jnich really had a beauty. I think he has sold it if I remember correctly. I am hoping he can come up with some pictures for a couple of beggars like you and I. I think his was extended a bit and also had a kayak rack or something like that on it.

just a ping in case anyone has pictures of that propane quick connect thread. i've decided to not put the engel on the tongue and will be sticking with propane so now i'm in the process of figuring out the propane situation. santa will be delivering a campchef pro 60 big *** stove that will live in the JJ as well as a mr. heater big buddy to extend the camping season, add to that a goal zero 250 rechargeable lantern and my wife will have 95% of what she liked about the 15k pop ups, and i won't feel like my child doesn't know what camping actually is =p

Well, here are the pics that I could find. Sorry it took so long, been busy as of lately. These were right before I sold it.

Here it is with the tongue lengthened 4 feet, rack for the fridge and A/C, plus the kayak racks on top. Tossed on a tool chest from Harbor Freight.

Here is it all loaded up and ready to go.

Lengthened tongue, rack for the fridge and A/C, plus the braces for the tool chest.

Small window unit A/C from Wal-Mart. In a matter of minutes it could get the camper uncomfortably cold. Also, I moved the battery box out of the tool chest in order to free up some space.

Inside view of the A/C.

LED's under table. Made a pretty good night light.

LED interior lights, enough to see at night but not enough to blind you.

Amp and volt gauges, plus bottle opener. Made a guard out of some scrap aluminum.

Added some lights to help when backing into a camping space. Wired into the battery, turned on with a switch.

Added some extra stop/tail/turn lights. Got them at a truck stop, extremely bright. Also replaced factory lights with LED's

JNICH77 that is one SWEET set up you had there! I liked how you integrated the AC and extended the trailer to add room for gear. I wish I was handy enough to do a lot of these mods myself. They looked professional and the bottle opener was an excellent touch!

Wife and I have a move from Alaska to Georgia coming up and we will be spending about a month on the road and the goal is to stay in 0 hotels the entire way. Wanted to come up with a way to have a shower set up right outside the door. I am currently looking at adding a door to the right of the existing door on my JJ and having a bolt-on deck extension that integrates with the existing tailgate, allowing me to set up out mobile privy tent immediately outside the tent. That way my wife can step right into the shower and right back into the tent (important in the cold/hot weather!). I had planned on just moving the A/C unit every time we needed to take a shower but now will look at moving it to the front perhaps. Curious what did you do with the existing front piece/table? Also, how much weight did adding the extension to the front end and the storage area add? And regarding the A/C, mentioned it was too chilly in the JJ.... what climate were you in? I'll be moving to the South in the middle of summer (100+ temps and 100% humidity) and was looking at getting the next model up (Frigidaire 8000 BTU vs 5000 BTU you had in your photo) but didn't want to overkill it (but the remote would be nice!). Thoughts?

Thanks for all the pictures!

Well, lets see, by the table I assume you are talking about the one that was on the front of the trailer from the factory? I just strapped it on top of the camper when it was folded up.

Extending the tongue probably added a couple of hundred pounds. I always tried to offset the weight by strapping heavy gear at the rear of the trailer.

I camped in the south east. The remote would be awesome, I had to get on my hands and knees to adjust mine...lol.

Thanks for the info. I will go with the remote option then for sure. Hopefully it will still fit as nicely as yours.

Extending the tongue and adding all that weight up front sure must have made for a huge tongue weight.

Not really, when it was hitched to the truck it didn't sink the *** end any more than normal (my Tundra's suspension is pretty weak sauce). The are tongue heavy from the factory to begin with. If I strapped some firewood and my grill (it's pretty heavy) to the rear of the lid it would balance it out pretty well.
