Jumping on the Cooper AT3 bandwagon......

Had a set on a sport trac explorer. I had no complaints at all. Snow traction was great, did fine on mud and gravel, they wore well, were quiet on pavement and best of all they were very affordable. I liked them much better than the older cooper atr I had in another truck.

Mine have about 40k and have worn well and still have excellent traction. Their noise level is unacceptable though and has been since about 20k. By comparison my Hankook ATM's are pretty much silent.

I am officially off the Cooper bandwagon. The replacement Hankook Dynapro ATM's in 275/70R17 E range were installed yesterday, no tire required more than 2oz of weight to balance, they are smooth and quiet as can be. (I had the ATm in 255/75 P-rated prior to all of this.)

Driving around on the Coopers the past several days, I also found the tread blocks very squirrelly, requiring constant steering correction; and they tended to follow road imperfections with gusto, requiring even more correction and producing unexpected vehicle movement. I tried psi at 32, 34, 36, 38 to see if there'd be any improvement, no luck.

I am putting dynapros on my patriot. If I like them I think I'm going to get hankook MTs on my Jeep. I had them on my f150 before and loved them.

Almost 30k here. Outstanding wear and traction, no noticeable defects or extra noise like others have reported. 245/75-16 E. Although, the sidewalls suck and Cooper as a company sucks. I contacted them about the sidewall issue noting how others have had the same issue and that this tire is rated an "excellent overland tire" blah blah. Not a hint of customer service from them, all I was looking for was an "I'm sorry the tires disappointed you. Have a T shirt and thanks for supporting Cooper tires." Nope. Just, "The AT/3 isn't an off-road tire. You should have bought the STT or STT pro instead." When these wear out I'm going back to BFG with a set of AT2s.

I'm really surprised they are ponying up for the writing contest posted here.

Kind of explains the hype, no?

Anyway, I truly wanted to love the AT3's and I'm sure many thousands, just like you, have had good service from these tires. Perhaps it was the size, or the factory, or the date, I don't know.

We'll never get a straight story on the arrangements and alliances but the OI empire will get some free content. :clapsmile

Good tires. I wish they had a 3-ply sidewall like my Toyo AT's. I've experienced a nearly catastrophic blowout in the past with 2-ply sidewall Bridgestone's. Ever since my Toyos have served me well.

My parents have the AT3s on their WK2 GC and won't buy another set. They did very poorly in the snow, wore quickly, and were very loud (compared to the Toyo AT2s my dad runs on his 2500HD in a bigger size).

I just bought a set of half-worn AT3s for the VehiCROSS at a price I couldn't say no to, so hoping my experience is better than that of my parents and many of the people in this thread. Seems like they're very much love-it-or-hate-it.

6k on a set of ATP's, pretty much the same tire. Silent and great value per dollar. I've aired them down and back up over a dozen times, no tread chunking.

I thought they were excellent in the snow, but our snow is limited to 2" or so.

I'm purchasing At-3's next week, I have done a ton of research/comparisons , and reviews. Interestingly enough, I find, most people that have the worst experience are serious off road types and the tires are not designed for that purpose alone.... more multi use, imo

I would think if a serious off roader wanted a serious tire they wouldn't buy a tire designed for an Cadillac escalade.

I drive 28 mi round trip every day to/from work in my Lexus GX470. If I was looking for a dedicated offroad tire, the AT3's would have been near the bottom of the list. Rather, I wanted something good for commuting, good on the beach (OBX), and could do light/medium offroad work.

Re Escalade tires, probably look to their Xeon line or whatever it's called - not the Discoverer line.
