Just another Carrizo Trip Report

Fantastic pictures! It's really hard to do those huge fields of flowers justice...
I knew you were going to be in the area Saturday, so I had my eye out, but I guess we missed you. There were at least two other SMB's in the area, though.

By the time we left at 0700 Sunday, the area had received about an inch of rain, so the flowers may be good for another few weeks...

I am heading for Joshua Tree this weekend and would love to see these flowers. I tried finding Carrizo Plains on Yahoo maps but I am getting nowhere. Where exactly are they?

Thanks!

It's just West of Maricopa, Ca.

There's many ways to get there from Josh. One way would be 247 across Lucerne, to the I-15 North, across the 58 over to Bakersfield and then over the 166.

Or.. 10 West, to the 57 north/ 210 north to the 5 north to the 166.

Or 247 to the 15 south to the 138 to the 5 to the 166.

There's no super easy way from Joshua Tree to get to Carrizo. No matter how you slice it you're looking at a few hour drive.

Dave, I'm trying to get a sense of scale in this picture. Is your SMB huge, or are you not?

Im 240 lbs and 5'9". Average height, large bulky frame. Im not small by any means.

So Yes, the SMB is that huge. Those tires that look like 31's are actually 35's. The van is like 23 feet long. That's a 6.5' awning.
