Just got my first HAM transmitter. Should be getting my license at the end of the month.

The model I have is the TYT TH-F5, does anyone else use this unit? Pretty stoked to be able to use this next time we go out.

Should be pretty good - most guys seem to think they are ok. We use 2m on the trail exclusively and having an HT is nice when you are spotting for someone... instead of trying to yell at them you can use the radio to talk them through.

The down side to an HT is the power an ostensibly the range. You'll do great in repeater range but simplex will be a challenge over more than a few miles. An external antenna on your rig for when your'e mobile will help a lot with that. Or do what I did and get a mobile to go with the HT ;)

Get that license!

Never owned one myself either, but the guys that have them love them and the ones I have seen in person seemed to work well. They look like great radios for the money to me.
