and the winning answer..... exploding piston..... I never heard of this before..... Everything else was fine...oil pump...cam shaft etc...... Piston came apart and spread metal into the other cylinders.....3 re-bores and a sleave....and new pistons... Just as well to say a rebuild... Since its apart, I'm going to do the works...

I've heard of this before. basicly its piston slap and something to do with the piston skirt and the stroke. the skirt shatters and cause hell with everything else.

Unless the price of rebuilds is really cheap or the price of jeeps is really high...I'd buy another jeep.
Down here you can pick up totally rust free mid 90's 4cyl's for $2500 all day long. You are going to pay close to that to rebuild and install.
