Keeping a small Honda generator in your car

Looking at either the 1000w or the 2200w Honda portable generator.

Is this something I can keep in the back of a Subaru Outback with other gear?

When in the off position, do they smell gassy?

I have a larger 3000w one but it doesn't make trips and lives outside under cover.

Thanks,
JM

I have a 1000W Sportsman that travels in my camper under the bed. With the vent closed I never smell gas.

I can confirm that on 3 units I rented, two Honda 2000 and one no name 2000 clone, none smelled while being transported IF the gas vent lever was in the closed position.

Agree on there being no smell. I drove cross country when we last moved with mine stowed in our van.
Trust me, if there had been a gasoline smell my wife would have noticed it!

As others have said, close the vent.
For my extended road trip I drained the float bowl on the carb before packing it.

One reason to keep the vent closed tightly?

Fun Fact:

In 1966, Bobby Fuller...the guy who sang the hit song, “I Fought the Law and the Law Won,” was found dead while seated in his parked vehicle, having been overcome from gasoline fumes that escaped from an open gas can in his car. His passing initially was ruled a suicide by the L.A. Coroner but the COD was later changed to “death due to accidental asphyxiation”! ?

So what you're saying is...

...he fought the law of physics, and the law won?
