Kinchrome 24 gal Cargo Boxes at COSTCO $39.97

A few weeks ago I spotted some very interesting cargo boxes at my local Costco, and filed it away as something worth checking out later. At 31x19x14 they were decently sized, very modular, with straight sides, and very solid when stacked. Perfect size for a roof rack, or in the back of the wagon. I'll use two for the back of the Tiger on a custom hitch rack we're building. Better form factor then an Action Packer (lower profile with a hinged lid) . They were also $89.97 ...

This afternoon I dropped into Costco for some random items and saw they were listed at $39.97 which made it impossible not to buy at least two... (I'm pretty sure I'll pick up a few more)

I'd never heard of Kinchrome, and the only information I was able to google indicated that they are Australian. Appears to be this item: http://www.kincrome.com.au/product/K7190/cargo-case-900mm

The only other link I found was a blog post where they are priced at $69 : http://amazonorcostco.wordpress.com...er-694587-kincrome-waterproof-cargo-box-blue/

Like I said, the price seems to have dropped from $89 - $69 to $39. From my time in retail, items priced at xx.97 usually indicated closeout/disco. Not sure if Costco is the same way, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I saw those today and was very interested. I'm thinking they are worth the shot as Costco has an awesome return policy. Gonna get some for my Death Valley trip I think and see what happens.

They are discontinued. I'm told an asterisk in the upper right corner signifies such in Costco parlance. Not sure how regional the item is, but I'd be interested to find out. I'll buy a couple more today..

Those look terrific. Haven't seem them here in the midwest. And with an asterisk-means-not-being-restocked tag, it looks like as with most things Costco, get 'em while they're hot.

I saw those too. To me, they seemed a bit expensive at the $89 price but at $40, they are a deal. The plastic is strong and reinforced. But the reinforcements take away on some interior space. The hardware is riveted on. The size is good for one person handling. But you are looking at 24lbs plus the weight of the contents.

haha.. Costco obviously doesn't mess around with disco pricing once they decide to move an item. :laughing
FWIW Dublin CA apparently had a couple on the floor today for the wonderful low price of... wait for it... $25.

Oddly enough, I don't mind having paid more for mine..

Once again as an Australian i would get shafted on the price and be expected to pay the 229 asking price... lol

I wonder if the Livermore costco has them? If not, I guess I've have to swing buy the Dublin store and buy a couple this weekend.

All gone...

Ahhh.. I think the window has closed. Item #694587 has been deleted from pretty much every Costco I've checked. I think the last price report was erroneous fwiw, since the only store that is reporting any item counts (Livermore @ 2) still shows the price at $39.97. I am having them do a physical check for the hell of it, but I'm fairly certain it'll turn up null.

I certainly don't need any more!

Edit: heard back from Livermore store. no stock, all gone, sorry.
