Kovea X-On Portable Stove? Good, bad, other?

I'm looking for a good single burner that uses those cheap butane disposable tanks you commonly see at buffet tables and similar places. The Kovea X-On Portable Stove looks like it might be a good option for me.

Specifically, does it work in cold weather? What about high altitude? Does it have enough heat to boil a quart of water in a reasonable amount of time?

TIA,
Sid

What sets this $100 stove apart from the $35 model they make, other than a nicer more modern appearance?

They both look to be using the same butane canister so their but’s must be pretty similar, right?

(I’m also looking for an affordable single burner portable stove)

Reports suggest is works better and has better wind protection, along with things like Magnetic butane canister attachment.

I have a GasOne 15K BTU and it rocks. Super simple and heats well. IIRC it was $25 on Amazon. I'm sure the trump tariffs have changed that price to cost us American's more dollars.

Kovea - no mention on my brief google about BTU output.

I have one that I bought over 20 years ago. They work fine, but I’m a bit apprehensive about them. A boating buddy in Florida had a neighbor receive serious burns when removing a canister to troubleshoot why it wasn’t working. I don’t recall all the details, but it was during a power outage, so I suspect there was an open flame nearby.

Horror story aside, they’re pretty neat stoves. I suspect they are fine to use just about anywhere, using appropriate caution when changing canisters.

Here’s a money saving tip for you if you have one of these butane stoves.

The fuel canisters for them generally are cheaper at hobby stores than they are at outdoor sports stores. Just FYI.

Walmart has cheap 3-packs. I might check a Hobby Lobby in the future for an alternate source. Thanks for the tip.
