L-track/Airline track for mounting seats?

I'm considering adding middle seats to my RB50 layout home build (essentially eliminating the RB50) and I know a few people have used L-track to mount seats in a van. How has this solution worked? I'm considering the UJoint brackets and Sienna seats.

Thanks!

Like most mounting solutions, it'll depend on how you back up the L-track. The primary Airline use of L-track is specifically to mount seats, so I think you're fine there, but its the mount to the body that'll make or break you. I'd say use all the mounting holes, and back up every bolt with a big fender washer under the body, and you should be fine.

If at all possible, I'd try for one of the "recessed" options, but I don't remember if you had a subfloor in your build.

In my build, I have 1/2" plywood subfloor behind the front seats, underneath the factory cargo van rubber floor and padding. I'm rethinking my entire setup so there is no guarantee I will be using a subfloor, or this subfloor. I'm considering different flooring for the passenger/living/cargo area; I have a number of holes that will be exposed once I begin to revert the van to a passenger configuration.

I do agree that recessed would be the cleanest.

works great. Make sure you get heavy duty L track like what’s used for wheel chair tie downs etc, it is not all equal.

I used recessed style L track, had it anodized black, with a 1/2” plywood floor. Holes every 4”, 5/16” bolts, thick 3” washers underneath with nylocks.

Talk to Michael (Mgmetalworks) at expo vans. He designed the seat mounts, and has several variants of different heights, seat base angles and some really nice new quick release brackets.

I just finished installing L-track with a 1/2" plywood subfloor. L-track is mounted on top of the floor ribs and backed up by steel. Track is flush with the floor. I have Ford Transit seats I am going to make mounts for. Going to use factory rubber mat on top for now and cut out for the track.20180623_195930.jpg20180705_130812.jpg20180728_173335.jpg

I got the undrilled track so I could put the holes where I wanted to avoid ribs under the van. 20180707_185138.jpg

I like those seat lockers. I'm guessing they're fairly expensive though so I'll probably be bolting / unbolting my seats for now. I'm sure it would be worth it if I was taking them in and out often.

Email us through our website expovans.com and we'll get you a quote for the Unwin lockers. We have them in stock, ready to ship.
