Rags are really cheap!
Also this was kind was fairly far out ther, so I'm sure getting parts would take some effort even if there are a lot of spares not terribly far away.

Guatemala and Nicaragua are excellent places to go hunting for non-USA Cruisers and Toyota trucks. Panama is also good. These countries are full of Cruisers and Toyota trucks and our dollars still go a long ways in these countries. Yes many are beat down but not all. I have seen many a Troopie used by police, fire departments and Red Cross in these countries. These would be ideal trucks to buy and convert to your overland Cruiser. Costa Rica is to expensive in my opinion. Belize lacks the trucks besides Rovers. Honduras I just don't trust. El Salvador, to small of a country.

Cheers

Why didn't they just fix the driveshaft, gears, etc. that broke? Must be a ton of spare Cruisers laying around.

Because that costs money, which is extremely tight in Bolivia.

You really need to spend extended time in countries where money is that tight to get an appreciation for it.

Even $10 is a lot when the rag fix is free.
