landmines in Tajikistan

Do not ignore the signs warning about mines.
I found this one only 30cm from my foot on the Khaburabot pass last August:

It is better not to get off the main trail.

I also found there a lot of other kind of ammo, including still armed unexploded armor-piercings and other misfires which still can explode.
In 2024 there was mine clearance in this area as you can see not entirely effective.

When I was out riding my motorcycle, I wanted to go from Morocco to Senegal.
There is a disputed region called Western Sahara that Morocco claims, but so do others.
There is about a 300 km stretch that had been land mined, so travelers needed to go in convoys.
It was an interesting time but no mishaps.
