larger tear drops

Yeah...you could say. Mine is finally complete and sleeps 4 comfortably.

I am currently building the body/box for mine.
It will be 4 feet tall when folded and 7.5 ft tall when opened up.
8 .5 feet long inside.
The sketch up is some else's work, but it's close enough to give you an idea. I will be using a tent with the bottom cut out for the top/roof.

The main difference between that drawing and mine will be mine is full width and longer. All storage compartments are built internally. But same open top tent, flip over sleeping area. Spare tire storage and entry door position.
The Kitchen will be at the rear in the true tear drop fashion.
But it will closely resemble the sketch up drawing.

The other picture shows the right side during the mock up stage I'm at now. The front and rear upper corners and entry door are not cut in yet. The beauty of this one will be the remote control steering of the IFS torsion bar suspension.
Remote steering is built and working.

I'll be doing a full write up here once I get it almost finished.
Expected completion by the end of the year.

Just my way of solving the internal height issue.

Ironically - that is my rendering and design. Hilarious. :lurk:
Oh...BTW - that design was not created with wood in mind for the cabin. I'd caution that...

someone else built our custom teardrop originally but i've been adding on to it. Im 6'5 and big. We have a queen size bed and its great. It fits both my girlfriend and I and is more comfortable than my bed at home. The head height in our trailer is pretty high and if i were to redesign id probably bring the roof down a foot or so. The headroom is nice and makes the bedroom area seem really big but its pretty much wasted space. fitting 2 people and 2 big dogs inside would be pretty tight. the space you have is pretty much the bed and thats it. all that vertical space down by your feet is normally filled with cabinets for storage which may not be so great for the dogs. If you are big i would really advocate the biggest side doors you can find and install them on both sides of the trailer. also make sure that the galley door is well clear of your head height. We recently put our Hannibal awning to the side of our trailer which has sides on it and it makes a great annex especially for crowded camp sites. Its pretty much an instant tent for a 2 legged or 4 legged friend.

I'm sure in one sense we qualify as a "larger" teardrop. At 5x10 its kind of a normal size.

The queen length (and nearly in width) bed is comfortable for my almost 6' tall wife. If we removed the headboard we could gain another 6" of bed length.

It is 5' tall from the frame. The first foot is basement which solves a lot of storage problems teardrops have. We keep nothing on the bed. It's all stored in the basement or tongue box.
The other 4' is bedroom height. Even with the mattress we have plenty headroom to kneel on the mattress.
If we feel the need to stand to change clothes we drop the walls on the side awnings for a changing room.
