LC or 4R?

Hi All... New to the group. I am debating on the purchase of a 2006 LC with 94k miles or a 2008 4R Limited with 26k miles. I do mostly around town driving with the family with the random long trips for vacation but, get into open trail, beach, and snow from time to time. I have always wanted a capable vehicle like the LC but, can NOT make up my mind on the best option. Could those who know, please provide your thoughts on this? Thanks!

Hi collk22 -TY.... I have driven both... I guess my main hangup is if there is real concern over the 94k miles on a LC vs. 26k miles of the 4R? IF it was just the truck... I believe the LC would be the right choice.

Gotcha.

I just bought a 98 LC with 180K so I'm a little biased, but I fully expect a least 100K more miles out of my 98 without a lot of maintenance required. Has the timing belt service been done on the LC? It's due if it hasn't been done and parts/labor will run you $1500 or so - could be a bargaining chip for you. Lots of guys on the 100 series forum on ih8mud with high mileage trucks and few reports of major repairs.

Both great vehicles in their own way. Good luck!

own both...they are different...4R is quick and turny...the LC is a tank and woud rather just run over something...Which one do you prefer to drive? I just don't like the way I sit in the 4R...I like both of ours. But, if it is one choice for me-LC.

Good luck...you will be happy with either:)

The LC is the only vehicle left in Toyota's North American lineup that has that rugged-from-the-ground-up bloodline left in it. I do realize we're talking about 100 series, and not a FJ80, but still, when compared to a V6 powered, mini truck based, American built design, it seems to me that the LC has the upper hand.

As everyone else has stated, they are vastly different vehicles, from design concept and build quality, to handling and drivetrain.

Thanks for the insights... I really appreciate everyone taking the time! I do love the LC. So if the LC is my choice... I shouldn't worry about the 94k miles on it vs. the '08 4R with only 26k miles with regards to reliability?

I wouldn't worry about the reliability. Might need a few more maintenance items, like a timing belt for instance. I'd worry about the horrendous MPG. 4runner is a more nimble vehicle, though they've become fairly bloated themselves in the last decade.

Call me callous, but thinking you can control the longevity of a vehicle by proper maintenance is delusional. Parts fail...or they don't.

So to answer your question, I wouldn't bat an eye at a sub 150K miles LC. Age and heat cycles take a far greater toll on a vehicles lifespan than mileage does.

4runners are still made in Japan.
