Lets see cargo area storage mods

Here's the initial stage of my storage build. In the process of building shelves and pull out drawers for it as well.

Had to give it a light weight test first.

Here it is with some spray on bed liner.

And here it is being put to use.

Ditto. It really is a great solution for those who don't need the rear seats in their JKU.

I've seen a couple of pretty slick platforms built out of these no-weld erector set/tinker toy products like http://industrialerectorset.com/T-Slot-2.asp and http://eztube.com. These solutions look to be very strong and much lighter than wood construction. I may build a platform out of one of these so I can slide my cooler and an action packer underneath and have the top for the rest of my gear. I haven't found a rear shelf I like that isn't stupid expensive.

I would like to build something to where I can remove the platform and when Im not camping or whatever I can easily pull that out and install the rear seat. maybe make something that has a good frame then making the cover with zeus fasteners or something. Ill have to figure something out.

:sombrero: I've built a removable cargo space platform that also doubles as a sleeping area-

It holds all recovery equip./tools/ mobile winch/HiLift and sometimes my wife :bike_rider:

It takes about 15 minutes to install and 5 minutes to remove-

Is it an optical illusion or the rear tire looks a lot bigger then then the front ?

Its an illusion, they are 37's but for this trip I had 450lbs of gear in back (lot of firewood) and I was bottomed out on my bumps the whole way into Coyote Lake. Spring swap in progress..

I must say that the JK tailgator table is very nice - Just installed mine and except for a loose transmission jack mishap late last year in the back of my JK the install was super easy - very nicely done and solid. I did have to make a modification for said mishap since my lower panel was dented (Porsche bits find their way into everything i do it seems :)) I'll post a pic soon.

Also incase anyone was wondering - 4 Front runner Wolf Boxes do NOT stack on the left side of the JK cargo area - it is about 2" short. which is a bummer. 3 will fit but nothing is stacked, its loose.

You've made me curious. How many can fit in a layer on the bottom? It looks like you don't have the subwoofer. Could you tell many you could fit with the sub?

I'd love a little more info on this. Is it pre made, if so by who. Can you post more photos on the bracktry and how it secures?

Thanks!

Actually I made it: had a little free time on my hands and no trailer project to work on: wanted to come up with something a little outside the box :) as a storage option. Then I realized the dead space above the cargo area would be perfect: it is never used even when fully loaded. The box bolts and hinges to the roll bar using factory bolts: the lock/latch plates bolt to the hollow structure of the hard top using nut serts.

As of right now it will be a product someone can buy: I filed a provisional patent and i am working with a U.S. Manufacturer for production. Plan is a 1st qtr 2015 production start date.

I've seen PsychoSquirrel's rack firsthand and it is a very nice unit that makes outstanding use of the dead space. The only caveat being that it becomes an open tray once you remove your hardtop.
