The shop I use had a Hummer in with a Duramax conversion. My buddy is an-ex Marine diesel mechanic who serviced and repaired Hummers. It had to be towed in. The shop botched the install so badly that it took six weeks in between jobs to fix it. it was a nightmare. The owner should have just left it stock.

Absolutely agree,
Stock is perfect the way it is, I drive on average 40.000 miles a year and 90% off road I never had issue, hummer always took me to very remote places and brought home, original 6.5 TD works like a clock.
AM GENERAL spent 100s of millions of dollars and engineering team to develop the hummer, and now some backyard mechanic wants to make a hummer be as fast as corvette, well that doesn’t work like that.

It’s funny to me when they say upgraded duramax engine,
How is that upgrade when you take out mechanical injection waterproof engine and you put electronic non waterproof motor in the vehicle that is made go through deep waters and be super simple.

duramax is an amazing engine, but the entire vehicle has to be engineered based on that.
If they really wanna upgrade they can use P400 6.5 TD developed by international and Am General for ECV ( extended capacity vehicle) Humvee ,
Forged crank, pistons, rods, rated @ 300 HP 600 lb torque, that’s a true upgrade for the hummer.

I have been absent a while and just happened across this forum again. I will have fun catching up. Nice to see a few hummers scattered in here

Catalina uses them for island tours. No sneaking up in the game for sure. i think the guide aired the tires up as it beat us to death.
There used to be Baja Hummer tours for rich folks. I can only imagine how cool that would be. The trails down there were carved by full size domestic trucks so they are wide.

Thanks...it took a while to grow on me but I like it now. Always wanted to paint it a darker color or even matte tan but never wanted to go through the pain in the butt. I figured I can’t be too choosy since they made so few.

I need to get it back out in the dirt where it’s happy...embarrassed to post a pic on the street ;-)

haha! They can definitely ride like a buckboard with the stock springs. Sections of washboard often make me think my whole truck is coming apart. I used to be on airbags...that’s one thing I miss about them
