Yeah maybe. We had the large gal tank in both(was a requirement for my dad) over 40. I think the 5.7's were much more thirsty than the 5.3's. Another reason why I'd like to get a 5.3 instead.

My '89 3500 TBI 3500 got 12mpg every tank. 2wd stock gearing and tires. I took it up to the San Pedro Martir mts. in Baja one time. 65 miles of crosswash x2. Needed tie rod ends and the steering box loosened up. That year had the defective valve guides so the heads came off at maybe 5K.
I can say it freighted,used no oil after the valve guide,great brakes and started every time.

I had one of these with a straight 6 and 3 on the tree in high school. I loved that truck.

On topic.. back in early March I had my 06 Silverado Z71 out in the desert just north of Las Vegas (Mint 400 offroad race fun with some friends, family, and their expensive hobby toys).
