Let's talk tires!

Tire time is coming up and tapping the collectives knowledge first has no downside.

Stock 95 yj and the driving conditions will be some pavement and a lot of Mojave desert terrain. Which is mostly hardpack, sand and rocks. Usage will be dirt roads of all qualities, dry washes and rough trails. jeep is not a daily driver and snow is not in the equation. Tire size will be 30x9 to 10.5 ish. If it matters my driving style is slow and easy. Hate spilling my coffee. :sombrero:

So what brands and models would you recommend and why?

95, best year for the YJ. Tires would be BFG A/T's.

I've got GT Radial Adventuro M/T's on my XJ, and they seem to work pretty well out here in the desert. Mine are 235/75/15 which is about 29" or so tall, so the difference between these and 30x9.50 (Which I also have a set of) is almost indistinct. Plus, I got mine for $98 a tire.

My only offroad tire which I have experience first hand are the BFG AT and Goodyear Duratracs. I have experience with a bunch more tires but for desert conditions you cannot beat either. Duratracs will ride smoother and probably clean mud better in washes, AT's have a stiffer ride and higher load rating depending on the size tire you get (Rim size, tire, width, etc) I think my gas mileage is better with the Duratracs. BLM crews are now using both those as well as MTR's for fire crews- its a toss up which you get.
