Lexus GX470 Expedition build

Definitely a cool build! Very nice execution on the bumper, your results prove that (lots of) hard work and a few tools can get it done. I think Dan is on to something here. With your CAD skills you could produce a "template cut sheet" that individuals could get from you to build their own bumper of your design. The file could be taken to a water jet or simply hand cut at home, by printing the templates to scale.

Side note: I just bought a GX 470 and your build was one of the contributing factors to that decision!

Awesome that the build thread helped you decide on a truck. A GREAT truck I might add.

Yeah, I have the templates. We will see what I will do with them. If I'll be kind and share a CAD model or sell complete bumpers or copies of the templates. I did probably spend 15-20hrs on the design of the bumper.

Have you seen the pic of your rig HERE?

Naw I didnt see that. Shane, will my buddy Brett (Bretthn on ExPo forum) get credit for his Photo :)

Thought I had credit in there. I'll add it when I get home ;)

What are the fines for this? Or do they only give you a warning?

I do not, I just recall reading an article about in Four Wheeler or Petersen's back in the day. In the late 80's, Nebraska was a $50 fine because I got nailed a few times running KC daylighters off a bed bar while doing 65 in the middle of the night on I-80.

Lol ok. I guess I will have to wait and see what the local troopers think about it.

Wow - great looking bumper build! You've got to be proud of how that turned out. One of the best looking bumpers I've seen - especially something home built.

I'm glad you like it. Yeah I think it turned out pretty cool. There wasn't much out there that I like from a design perspective so I did something myself instead and it worked pretty well I think.

Turned out very nice and you did it ubber quick too! The design is very nice and functional, good work. Your GX is on the same platform as my 4Runner. Maybe in the future we can work on something together. Interested to see what you come up with a bumper for the rear,

Thanks! Yeah it went quick. But once I get in to something I have a hard time doing something else until it's done.

Hang out with some sheet metal, beer and a welder sounds like a plan!

I'm also interested to see what I will do for the rear bumper. I might start a thread about that soon to get some ideas for the build.

I'll head down to Uwharrie tomorrow for some driving and will camp down there as well. Swing by if you want to go for a drive.

We got bored staying home this weekend so we went for a trip down to Uwharrie to chill around a campfire and go for a hike before all the leaves fall of the trees.

Ground was uneven but that is an easy fix :)

I love that the bed is made in these RTTs with an Off road magazine ready.

The morning after we went for a hike. I think the dog thought the night was cold (low 30s F) because he made his bed and fell asleep while we where making breakfast :)

Oh yeah. Almost forgot. I read an Australian article about cutting up the inner fender and adding an aftermarket bumper on the LC120 that kind of scared me. They say that doing that takes the stock water wading depth from 700mm to 100mm. Since the intake is so exposed now, which is not good at all. So after reading that article I ordered a snorkel. Snorkels is really not my bag of chips but I don't feel like hydro detonating the engine. After all I pass creeks 100mm deep with speed every weekend.

So I mounted this. It was terrible mounting these things. I got small hands but working the nuts and bolts on the inside of the fender was a pain. I'll build a brand new bumper any time over mounting another snorkel. But here it is in all its glory. Looks better then I would have imagined.

Looks great. I'm a fan of snorkels, both of their function, and looks. You're ride keeps getting better, and better.

You and water crossings? Nah

I just got an empty post from you at first. Yeah that's a nice picture. So now I can continue to cross creeks in a manly fashion without hydro detonating the engine :)

God, I love this truck. Such a great execution. That bumper turned out fantastic. I'm very impressed with your rig so far! Keep up the great work!

I was actually looking into getting one of those when I sold my Discovery. Mostly because I have a secret love affair with the same body style Prado. :)
