Lid Help

:wings: Good design idea on creating a roof crown so that water drips off the lid while the trailer is standing still. :bike_rider:

Seriously, I would look at welding angle iron on the side of the lid. Put weather stripping on the bottom edge to seal the lid to the box.

Thanks for seeing the glass half full!!!

What I'm seeing is a warped flange and a straight lid body. That tells me that it is only the flange that is warped and that it possibly was welded on already warped.

I would ask them to cut the flange loose along the sides and solidly clamp it to a welding bench before welding it again. If they manage their heat (back-stepping etc.) they should be able to get it fully welded without warping it.

If it was welded that way the first time, then it needs to be bowed the same amount, but in the opposite direction with shims under the clamped flange before welding.

Thanks, I will pass this on when I bring it in tomorrow. I could see that they used stepping when welding that on, but like you said, the stock may have been bent to start with.

I'll post the new product.

The color scheme is ultra flat black for all accents and ultra flat olive drab for everything else. I bought a contraption that hooks onto a spray paint can that holds the can and has a trigger, so it works like a spray gun. Not bad for $1.99.

As long as the additional welding doesn't further worsen the situation, I will be in the clear. Pics to come.

Here are some quick shots of the lid before I leave for the weekend. They were taken in the garage and lighting is poor. I'll take some good ones later. I also put on some new tires with steel FJ Cruiser wheels. This way I don't need the Spidertrax spacers to get the hub ring correct for the aluminum ones.

On a side note, the better half and I tried to rattle can the trailer today. That's why the fenders are off. Not gonna happen. Its going to a painter friend of mine on Tuesday. Hopefully I won't get gouged!
