I need new tires for my 2007 4Runner and have been reviewing threads on 4th gen lifts and tires. Considering 255/75R17 and 265/70R17 tires to replace the 265/65R17. Will these tire sizes fit without a lift?
iron man foam cell front struts with performance springs, metal tech dual rate rear spring and icon vs shocks. I have the one inch spacer installed in the front, in preparation for added weight. As it sits right now it's at 4" in the front and 3.5" in the back. Installed about three months ago. Already had to replace the cv shafts, that previously had 100k on them. Rides great flexes well. I'm also running a very mild 265/70/17 all terrain. I have zero rubbing issues. I also removed about two inches from the rear in spring bump stops. I would say the iron man shocks are the best bang for the buck out there. Way better than bilstien, way tougher. They do not fade, they are way larger and everything is fully welded. No ride height clips to break. The ride is comfy without being too stiff. The icons are pretty sweet, soft and cushy at low speed, but they stiffen up the harder you hit them. I plan to go up in tire size once I regear and add lockers. 255/85/16 is my target tire size. Gearing will be 4.88.I am currently running FJ springs with Bilstein shocks. I find it to be an ideal compromise for on and offroad. I run 255/75 r17s which are right at 32" with ample clearance and the caster is set in the mid 3 range.
Hi, I recently installed almost the same suspension setup: FJ springs with 5100s in the rear and Trail Teams in the front plus 10mm topout spacers (slightly smaller lift than 5100s set at 0.85"). I am very happy with it, and it performed noticeably better than stock during my recent trip to Big Bend NP (Old Ore, Glenn Springs, and Juniper Canyon roads).
I am also planning to go to 255/75R17 next for the extra lift and capability. What exact tires are you running and/or do you recommend?
FWIW, I am currently running Cooper A/T3s in P265/65R17 and am considering primarily A/T3, ATP, Mastercraft Courser AXT (all P-metric) and ST Maxx (LT/C1). I am leaning toward P-metric because 90% of my driving is on-road, my rig is stock otherwise, and my expedition setup is very lightweight/removable.
Thanks for any advice!
I have a very similar set-up. 2005 SR5 4x4 with Bilstein 5100's, OME 884's in the front, and 2" Toytec Superflex coils in the rear. I also chose to go the 255/75r/17 Cooper ATP route. So far, I'm enjoying the ride on and off-road. I took it through heavy silt last week in Anza Borrego CA and the truck performed remarkably. I hope this info helps!
