Here's mine, 94 WRX that has very little left of the original car (floor, front rails, most of the motor, tail shaft and half the rear diff) Hi/Lo box from a 91 Liberty/Legacy with an OBX front LSD, 4.44 crown wheel & pinion, DCCD center, 4.44 viscous rear diff, huge bash plate & diff plate, Forester struts with Dobinson springs, 1" body lift, MY97 V3 JDM STI body and interior from A pillars back & 99 front, GT Forester rims, strengthened Japanese Gravel Express front bar & rear wheel carrier, STI V2 RA Computer, still another 1" more lift coming and tow bar tongue/hitch fitted to the front so I can fit my portable winch when needed

Thanks guys, the front bar & carrier came off one of these, they were a 96 WRX with a cheap interior, different skirts and crap wheels, a mate bought the carrier and on sold it to me than I stumbled across a front cut from Japan with the bar work on it, the car sat under a cover for 4yrs while I collected bits & pieces & I finished it a couple of years ago....so far I've counted parts from over 40 different cars in it lol.

I ordered my latest bits from the US today which are the 1" front strut lifts and a 50' 5,400lb winch rope, we seem to have better parts supply here but you have cheaper aftermarket things like diffs, ropes etc.

Those half axles must be very stuff....I would look at those and say "Heck no, not those skinny sticks for axles!" But looking at the pictures of what they are putting these thru, I guess they don't snap very often. They look really skinny and thin to me though...that is what would scare me, not just bending or breaking them while wheeling on rocks.

They do snap but usually only at the drags with over 300hp going through them, never heard of anyone bending one but bearings & CV's can be a problem though surprisingly not that common.

^^^^^I likey, is your trans stock or from overseas?

Hi there, and thanks! :)

the trans is a stock US market transmission, its out of an 1989 DL Wagon. unfortunately once those were done, i dont believe there were any more dual range transmissions in the US, i think just AUS and maybe Europe got dual range 5 speeds in the Foresters. (those bastards!)

you can swap this dual range tranny into say an impreza using the engine adapter to mate it up. and making some custom axles (just to make the splines match up) and a custom tranny mount, and rear diff if you dont have 3.90 final its been done a few times on Ultimatesubaru.org.

my next car i want to do an impreza ob sport with full legacy suspension:wings:

Thanks mate, we got the dual range boxes in the Impreza Sportswagon very similar to the one pictured above, the Outback 2.5 four cyls, the Forester 2L & 2.5L's and some of the Liberty/Legacy's as well. The older L & Brat boxes's had the crawler low ratio's which will drop straight into the later boxes and is a pretty common swap here whereas the later boxes like mine were only about a 20% reduction, a good hi/lo box is usually worth between $250 & $350 US/AUD and apart from 1st gear being a bit thinner the rest of the box is pretty much the same strength as anything you'd find in a WRX.
