Curious to see what you build next. I really like they way you did this one, and the components you chose all seem top notch.

Very nice design and execution - props for going all electric and Li storage

May have missed it - H20 questions -

There is not a heat exchanger with the engine for preheating of hot water correct?

What it the cold weather camping outlook with the external water tanks and plumbing?

Thanks, GLWS

Thank you!

We opted for no heat exchanger due to the fact the engine has to be hot to provide any benefit. The van has enough battery power to easily handle 20 minutes at 1200W for the water heater to be on.

For cold weather camping we have heating pads on the water tanks and the grey tank. All lines are Nylobrade polyester braided pvc, which is best to prevent cracking or breaking in extreme low temps. The lines aren't insulated but you could wrap them if you camp in cold weather.

If only this was built into a 4x4 diesel sprinter.. You could easily get $140,000+ for it. Great job on the build!!

You said the AC was just serviced. What was needed? Have you been happy with this type of AC? Does it cool sufficiently in hot humid temps?
Also curious about the heater. How has it performed? Would or do you plan to use the same products in future builds?
Fantastic build and love the all electric approach!

Just looked this one up on the manf page to get an answer: http://impianti.autoclima.com/en/single/2156

"Test conditions: Ext. Temp. 89°F - Int. Temp 77°F
Cooling capacity: 950 W / 3250 Btu"

That rather anemic performance is not much to get excited about....only cooling temps down 12° on a not very hot day!

So this might be one area for the buyer to budget an upgrade on this incredibly nice looking van. All else considered, this looks like a great rig.

That test is kind of irrelevant because it's impossible to know the size of area being cooled - but that being said I imagine it was a smaller size.

Anyone who thinks 3250 BTU will cool this whole van is dreaming though. I have seen vans with 12,000 BTU colemans and they still cant get cool in really hot AZ weather. Also, the new Roadtrek vans come with 30,000 BTU (yes, thirty thousand) air conditioners because it is what people demand - very fast and high powered cooling solutions. So no, 3250 BTU will not adequately cool this van, but that doesn't mean it is useless. If you notice the vent blows right over the bed, so when you are sleeping you will get a blast of cool air on you. It just wont cool the entire van.

Greetings,

Nicely done.
Some here know my wife and i have a chevy awd convertion (build link for the curious).
With my 60th b-day around the corner we purchased a 2017 159wb HR 2500 PM and will be doing a ~stealthy~ conversion.

I am curious as to the weight at the scales of your rig? The curb weight on the 3500 is ~4950lbs~ with GVWR of 9350lbs.

Thx in advance,
Thom

The condenser was malfunctioning. They replaced it out of warranty for no charge! Very happy with the service from Autoclima. The A/C is low BTU so you can't expect much as far as cooling (especially with single pane windows all around). It does feel amazing blowing on you when you are sleeping. It does a great job at lowering the humidity.

So I had not come back to post because we sold the van three days after listing to the first person we showed it to. Well, the buyer backed out due to a family emergency. So, I am relisting the van for sale! Go check out the website and pass this on to anyone who may be interested: http://www.expeditionvan.squarespace.com
