You think RI lights are a good deal? Hahaha that is a bad joke friend! Extremely expensive for no better light output. The internal build is a bit higher than ebay bars but output is no better.

The only great thing is that Rigid are designed and made here in the USA, hence why the higher prices and similar build. I may give one of their bars a try since they're the only ones who offer a decent amber bar that I'm looking for.

Where did you find the Ironman awnings at? LED strip sounds interesting and it will match my tent to boot.

TRDParts4U/Toyota of Dallas: http://trdparts4u.toyotaofdallas.com/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=-109 Pretty good price. They list two, I got the 84".

Talk to Chris at Hefty about a CVT, he is now a supplier of the tent and is trying to get some traction in the market. As far as lighting goes I think rigid industries lights are a good deal for what you get.

I just ordered the Ironman. I've had really good luck with their customer service in the past, and the price and the lights were huge selling points to me.

If I was going to go for an LED bar, I'd go with OKLED, ExtremeLED, or the like. good build quality at a reasonable price.

That, and the excellent customer service are what won me over. I believe they have a lifetime warranty also. Not sure if it's something you'd be interested in, but they did just come out with quite a few DOT lights safe for street use.

Ironman 4x4 Instant Awning

Look what the nice UPS guy dropped off this morning!

This thing is so cool, and I'm pretty impressed with the quality for the price. At just over $300 shipped I couldn't be happier. I got it mounted up just after it showed up.

I'm very happy with the length on the truck. It looks pretty good, and I'm really glad I decided on this awning over the ARB if for no other reason than the black cover. I mounted it in a pretty rudimentary way, with six hose clamps and the provided L brackets. This method actually feels very solid, so I'm happy with it for right now. After looking it over, I think I want to shorten my roof crossbars a little bit so I can bring the awning closer to the truck.

Setting it up is pretty darn easy, even if I'm all by myself. The twist-lock poles are really nice and once everything is in place, it's actually really sturdy even without the guy ropes. The best part about opening it up was seeing this:

This little strip of LEDs is about four feet long and seems pretty bright when lit during the day. I'll be setting the awning up near dark tonight to get some shots of it when lit up.

You can see it gives me a really large amount of space to hang out under and stay away from rain and bright sun.

Overall I'm really happy with this product and would certainly recommend it to anyone who was considering it. It was easy to mount, not too expensive, and it's a really handy bit of kit.

Neat! I've been really looking into those lately, does it say anywhere about it being waterproof?

No, but it I can say it's pretty weatherproof. It's made of exactly the same material that my CVT rooftop tent was made from. I had it under the garden hose for quite a bit yesterday and the area under the awning stayed perfectly dry. The fabric itself does seem to be able to hold a bit of water though, so I might just try and apply a waterproofing material.

I'd highly recommend the Ironman awnings after having set this one up a couple times. I can't believe how stable it is when free standing. It's rock solid. I can see it holding up in some moderate winds. And I finally had the opportunity to test out the LED strip in the dark, and I can very happily report that it works amazingly well as a camp light. The strip gives off plenty of light for quite a distance. I'm really impressed. For the price (only $10 more than the ARB awning), I think this one is awfully hard to beat, mostly because of the light.

I had a free afternoon today, so I took a drive to the northwest to get some landscape photos in the Crazy Mountains. I have never set foot in the Crazies before, so I was interested so see what there was in terms of camping and exploring. See, the Crazies are a really interesting group of mountains. They are an island range, surrounded on all sides by rolling hills and plains. The surrounding landscape is almost exclusively private ranch and farm land, which makes accessing these mountains very difficult. As such, the opportunities for getting lost are few and far between. I knew that there are a couple campgrounds down this particular road, so I went to check them out.

I found this old cabin up on a hill. I sure am jealous of these people. This is one nice place, and the view is really hard to beat.

I left the cabin, as photogenic as it was, and I headed further into the mountains.

The creek flowing out of the mountains has carved a fairly deep gorge leading out of the valley. I was not expecting that, and was really surprised by the giant hole in the ground when I spotted it from the road.

The mountains here are impressive. Rugged and vertical like their neighbors to the south, the Beartooths and Absarokas, but nowhere near as vast. They sure are majestic though, especially considering they just rise out of nowhere.

And of course, the obligatory truck photo! I really love the way the truck looks with the awning on there.

Any issues with the awning mount ?

Nope, rock solid. I will be hard mounting it with bolts sometime soon though. I also moved the awning closer to the truck the way i wanted. I just slid the roof bars to the driver's side and moved the awning closer to the truck. You can't even tell they're uneven. :)

We are really looking forward to moving up there. Great pictures, what camera are you using?

It's beautiful country. The Crazies are about an hour from Bozeman. So are the Absarokas. And a bunch of other ranges. It's a really nice area to be.

Thanks! I'm using a Nikon D610 with a 24-120mm f/4. Excellent combo with fantastic image quality. Edited in Lightroom and Nik Software pack.
