Tom, you were just talking about departing for a Uganda safari! What a great coincidence. This is perfect for you. You should definitely Skype them.

Lol.

Wreck- check out Mob Armor for tablet mount/ phone mount. I like them over the RAM units, given they have something that fits the Samsung. Talk to Raul over at XpeditionOutfitters about them. We love ours.

I just picked up TRED 1100s and I'll let you know how they fare next weekend! Seem pretty well built but reality use will tell.

I know that feeling of the home stretch. I think I've reached that point as well. She's definitely come a long way from when you got Lola, and she looks and I'm sure performs great!

I have a buddy who ha maxtrax and treds. Says the treds aren't worth it. Get the maxtrax

I've never used TREDS successfully to self recover a vehicle. Tried many times. Failed many times.

My MaxTrax on the otherhand, have been successful everytime I've used them.

Well, it looks as if I may have to learn that myself. You get what you pay for in the end.

What were the circumstances and what exactly failed on the treds? Having more details in their use rather than saying they failed etc etc, or 'heard' of them not working can be a better determining factor for us non users.

And there was another time where we were trying to climb out of the "hole" you drive into to get to Bill Moore Lake. The 2 door JK Rubicon in our group could not get up the snowy hill. It's a long uphill, probably 500 feet long and at a decent angle, and just couldn't make it. We placed the TReDs midway to get traction but it didn't help. We aired him down to about 8 psi and put a bunch of pine tree branches in the tracks and he drove right up. All other vehicles made it up just fine- pre and post tree branches.

My MaxTrax success stories:
Twice on this trip: http://rockymountainoverland.com/forum/index.php?threads/red-cone-day-trip-report.812/
Not sure if the MaxTraxs actually got him free or not on this trip as I was up the hill putting gas in my tank when he drove off: http://rockymountainoverland.com/forum/index.php?threads/grand-loop-part-1-fruita-to-moab.646/

Went on a Christmas Tree run down in the Beartooth Mountains. Ran into some deep snow, but nothing too bad. Had to spend a little time at 3000 RPM to dig the tires in, and used the locker once. Grabbers still working a treat, especially at 20 PSI, and Lola handled the snow really well. Had a lot of fun! Even used the winch to "recover" a couple trees.

Built, not bought!
Great pics!! Looks like a fun trip. Do you know are there any other options for rear tow points other than a hitch for the Fronty?

I really like the picture with the tree up top

What body and lens are you using again ?

Thanks Mike! It was a fun time.

I'm using the Nikon D610 with the 24-120mm f/4. I'm going to be picking up the 16-35mm go compliment it soon.

Other than a rear bumper, the factory hitch is pretty much it.
