For the holidays, I made another trip up north to see my family. We had great weather both ways, albeit cold. I did get a chance to flex the winch a bit when I helped an old guy out of a ditch on the side of the road. Otherwise, not a whole lot to report. Lola was flawless, as expected, and gave a pretty consistent 16.8 mpg average. Seems I'm losing about 1-2 mpg thanks to winter blend gas, but that's to be expected. These pictures aren't from adventures with the truck, but they are from the area during some snowmobile rides.
After this day, my family and I flew from Missoula to Madison, WI, where we attended my brother's wedding on New Year's Eve. afterwards, we flew back to Montana. Meanwhile, my brother and his new bride flew to the Bahamas. That's not quite fair.
Anyways, I did a little more exploring and got some great images.
That's all for now folks!
Good stuff ... thanks, sir! Looks about where I'd head, with some good additions I always seem to leave out when I pull it together in my head (side cutters, pick, deep sockets) ... I don't see a 32mm socket (for the front axle nut), do you figure on using channel locks or an adjustable wrench if you have to swap a CV? Another one I want to pick up and toss in the truck (because they're small and easy to carry) is one of these guys and a roll of wire: http://www.clamptitetools.net/
Solid list there wreck! And i'm diggin the roller fridge/drawer combo. I carry a 32mm socket too from harbor freight in the off chance I snap a CV.
Absolutely gorgeous! Bahamas might be nice but I would say you weren't in a bad spot either.
Made the mistake of trying to back into my garage with the canopy window open. Sooooo a new rear window assembly (including frame) has been ordered. Hopefully it gets here before my trip on the 5th. Luckily the replacement is only $300, and I had some money come in from selling a few photos. I'm just irritated I'll lose my NW Overland Rally sticker. Rats.
There's something I'll never do again.
^that sucks.
My wife had the bright idea to go into the garage, get in her car (VUE), then open the garage door and back out. Normally she opens the door as she comes out of the house. But this time she didn't allow for extra time for the door to go up.
Cracked the panel in the garage door, bent the metal frame of the garage door panel and of course blew out the back window.
Careful what you say there...did the same thing about a year and a half ago. Got the new door assembly for the Leer, got most of my stickers back on the new door then bam ... trying to leave in a hurry for the long drive to my mom's house at Christmas I tried to back out of the garage while not noticing the canopy door was open. So another replacement door in the Leer and all the stickers gone again. The local Leer/ARE dealer says he has one customer he's put 5 doors on the same topper. Hopefully I won't be that guy.
#topperprobs lol
Somebody in some thread somewhere asked me about my front recovery points. I can't for the life of me remember where the question was asked or who asked it. So I'll just answer it and hope someone sees it on one of my build threads.
The front recovery brackets are made by RockyMtnX over on TheNewX. I'm not sure if he's still making them. You can always head over there and ask. They're really well made and super solid.
I do not believe that RockyMtn X is making any new products, but a person would have to check with him for sure. I know his hidden winch mounts are in great demand and people comment regularly on TheNewX that they can either not get in touch with him, or he has mentioned that he is not making items anymore.
A person could also post an ad in the wanted section over at TheNewX for the front recovery brackets, see what turns up.
