Always a great read with great pictures. Is that the ironman snorkel? It looks great. Out of curiosity, how often do you use the locker on your trips?
You take ridiculous pictures, amazing. This is one of my favourites... I know you're probably not even trying here, but I love it
We spent the last 9 days in the Black Hills and Badlands...kept looking for ExPo members while there and it sounds like we were close to crossing paths. I've got to put together a trip report once I download photos from the card although mine will not be up to par with your work - very nice photos indeed.
Have you done anything to seal your tailgate? On our Devil's Tower day, we came back by way of Cement Ridge lookout, Spearfish Canyon, down to Rochford and Mystic on the way back to Rapid City. I've always had toppers on my trucks and know negative air pressure can pull in dust, but the huge gaps in the design of the Frontier tailgate gave me the honor of massive amounts of dust inside the bed/topper. I've got to figure out how to seal it up better.
As far as the locker goes, it kind of depends. When the trails get tougher, I try to use the locker as much as possible. It helps so much with being able to control the truck, and it has kept me from getting stuck or damaged many times. Obviously I don't use it on fire roads and the like, but any time I see off camber situations or really loose terrain, the locker gets locked. I want to do as little damage to the trail and the truck as possible.
Wyo FTMFW.
I'm not sure my 2012 Frontier would qualify as a super cool expo truck parked next to yours but it gets the job done.
I may lift the Leer shell off and remove the drop-in bed liner. Its keeping the forward edge of the shell just behind the cab from sealing properly and I do get a small amount of water intrusion there. Plus the bed liner wastes several inches of room on each side the way it is molded. Once I do that I'm going to work on the tailgate sealing issue. If you find a good tailgate seal let us know. I'll probably try and pick up a couple of different sizes although it may take a swimming pool noodle to fill some of those gaps!
Interesting you should say that. It's the one reason I wish I had the locker. It would be less wear and tear I feel like on the vehicle for those loose rock and off camber sections.
I haven't stopped by here in a while, regrettably. Your photos are amazing... I think we need to take turns showing each other around our respective areas. OzTent and the Snorkel are awesome, your rig is suited so perfectly for overland and expedition travel, and still looks so clean and not overdone. Excellent job overall!
FWIW I dig the RallyArmor mud flaps.
What beautiful country you live in. I was at East Rosebud Lake for a night last month (following your recommendation, had a great burger in Roscoe). I've watched your build with interest. It's well thought out and very well done. I have some Hella compacts I'm thinking about replacing and like your choice of lights. Exactly which model are those?
Oh, btw, your photography is spectacular!
Oh, and I will officially be attending the Northwest Overland Rally in Washington in two weeks![]()
Awesome! I'll be going with a few friends so I'll have to look out for your rig!
I'll be there, as well. Unfortunately I likely won't be getting there until Friday afternoon or evening because of work. I look forward to meeting you guys there.
