Long flatbed on a short bed truck? Head of it?

Like IdaSho, I lengthened the frame of my truck by adding to the rear. It gave me an 8' bed on a 6.5' truck. I have over 30k hauling the camper all over the US and Mexico.

Ya, here is a picture of the truck.

I took that truck for a couple of test drives a while back. While I decided it wasn't right me at the time, it appears to be a solid truck in good shape. I didn't notice any issues at all. I did have the same thoughts regarding the overhang, though. PM me if you have any specific questions.

Thank you! I might just do that. Cheers

Looks like a great truck Jack, thank you for your input. I can’t wait to get my next adventure/work truck.

How much are they asking for it? I'm not in the market since I bought a 2018, but curious how much less it is than what I paid new.

Ah such a cute little half ton.

When you decide to include info on those examples, specifically loaded weight, let me know. ?

I don't think the parallels you've drawn where correct so I tossed in a couple of "domestic truck" pics.

The RV Industry is renown for poor engineering.

Channel frames bend and fatigue crack. I've welded the cracks in a few aluminum and steel frames. Before a complete failure a bent frame will be caught by unusual tire wear.

Its a 10' bed on a long bed (8') Superduty.

I'm putting a 10' bed on my 8' Tundra as well. The length of the bed behind the rear wheels is nearly identical to the length in front. Heavy stuff (water, tools) will go in the back seat. It will be light, and I'm not worried about the frame handling it. To the front spring mount the frame is a very stout closed C.

Love your setup, BTW(y)

When I built our truck, I did essentially the same thing.... add a longer bed than the truck was built for...

Its a 10' bed on a long bed (8') Superduty.

I added 24" of to the rear of our super-duty to make room for the cross-body box, while retaining a full 96" bed.
The camper COG as built is very far forward keeping the overall truck + camper COG well within check.

Just watch your weight behind that axle, and be prepared to address the rear suspension, as it adds leverage to the rear.

?

If you need any help or ideas to facilitate those possibilities.... just give me a shout.

After years of traveling and taking notes, this camper and truck is the result.
And I couldn't be happier with the results. It checks all of the boxes for us!

lookin' good as per usual Jack. ?

Your truck is a close second to my choice of truck, prior to the SAS you did.
With the SAS and the rest of the treatments, its an incredible setup.

All business, without the BS. ;)

Thank you. You have a great truck as well. Like most, this will probably be my last diesel. The camper looks great on the new truck.
