If you need more room than your current 4runner, you should probably cross the FJC off the list now. It's shorter overall and smaller inside.

Other than being a rust bucket, what don't you like about your current 4th gen 4runner? Lots of them out there in your price range. You're in Junction City (Fort Riley? ;) ) so a trip to Colorado wouldn't be too much of a burden and 4runners are as common as weeds in CO. Maybe more common. :D Also we have a nice dry climate and they don't use much salt on the roads here. My '07 has about 110k on it right now and runs like a top. I previously had a '99 and it was still running perfect when I sold it with 150k.

x2 on the FJC. GREAT truck as far as quality and capability, but having driven my in-law's rig a few times, I've been surprised how big a vehicle it is, with such small seating and cargo area's.

Hummer H2 :)

I like the looks of the Commander, reminds me of my H3 :)

I would get a HEMI Commander and go from there.

My vote is Chrylser Town and Country with all wheel drive. They have plenty of room for your dogs, gear, and future children. Might as well bite the bullet now, plus they do great in snow, gravel, and fire roads (I know because I had one as a rental and we used it pretty much as a rally car, note don't buy a rental car). Plus with stow and go seating you have plenty of interior storage bins and each one of the bins holds a case of beer and ice (no need for a cooler or fridge). With all that interior space you won't even need a roof top tent because you can sleep inside, need I say more?

I would go with a 3rd gen Montero 03-2006. Capable offroad, comfortable, classy styling, lots of storage, waaaaaay lower price, reliable etc. Parts are not hard to find and I don't anticipate they will be for quite some time. There's enough aftermarket parts to do a few tasteful modifications without getting out of hand and you could basically be fully modified/baselined with a lower mileage vehicle for the same cost as stock higher mileage 4runner.

If you're ok with the MPG of the Commander's than the MPG of the 100s LC shouldn't bother you. Solid and a tank and last forever. But I would vote for a 08-10 4Runner.
Have you looked at a UJoint Van.

Well besides the rust I really don't care for the front end nose styling of the 4Runner, this also the same case with the 100 series Land Cruiser. The front ends of both of these vehicles I don't care to much for. I like rest of the styling of both of the vehicles but the front ends remind me to much of a van or car. But like I said other than that I like the styling. I have had a quite a few issues with my current 4Runner besides rust. My radiator started leaking for no reason out of the blue, my transmission lines both broke, sunroof leaked and next the sunroof stopped working, the rear hatch door stopped opening and broke and it's been a pain. I like Toyota overall but I'm so sure. I use to work for Toyota and they are probably the most reliable auto maker on the market but some things get to me about them. If you have an issue typically forget about going to Toyota, I have always been given the run around and no help at all.

I like the Troopers styling but I just don't know much about them and I haven't known many who have them. I don't know the reliability of them to make a strong thought about them.

One of my QQQ instructors has a Trooper for a bazillion years. She says she wouldn't sell/trade it for anything.

I do love these years of the Montero but I have heard the aftermarket and parts can be hard to come by. I have always heard issues dealing with head gaskets. But also what gets me is the V6 and it being a 3.6 or 3.8 whatever it is. Little power to give. I love the styling of the Montero, very nice looking.

The Hemi would be my 1st choice and next would be the 4.7 liter V8 if I couldn't get a Hemi V8.
Hemis are sweet and the valve clatter and other mechanical songs it makes when it's angry are intoxicating.
But they are thirsty whores and you can't get around that.

No vans please. lol Thanks

What's wrong with vans? They're great with space and the best part is that pennestar has some pep to it, no to mention awesome gas mileage. Great people from history have driven vans from the A Team to Scooby Doo.
