Looking for a recommended light for HID conversion

Heimz- Thanks for the warning. I already ordered 2 harnesses. I want the center Euro Beam and the 2 Cornering Beam lights switched separately. I may just send them back and do my own if they are at all suspect. I googled the harness and found it used to be made for 4 lights. Now it only supports 2 lights, maybe Hella learned 4 was too much current. Technically I will be pulling only 55 watts per light, vs 100 watts for the stock halogen bulbs.

Small change to my plans. I ditched the 70 watt HID's. When I contacted the company I did not get a warm fuzzy feeling. Sounded a bit hokey. Now I am running 3 - 55 watt HID's. This is nice because they come in pairs so now I have an extra ballast and bulb, and saved a few bucks. That reduced my light output to only 15,000 lumens. Hope I can make do with that.:ylsmoke:

H I Dizzle?

What's with all the HID hype? Do they last longer, use less energy. They sound expensive for not a whole lot of benefit.

Does anyone have a before and after pisture or site I could check out. I find my low beam halogens are pretty bright and the highbeams are killer.

I also added HID 4300K's to my Hella 500's

I would'nt get to wrapped up with HID's, I have just got back from an electronics fair in Taiwan and LED's will takeover from HID's very soon and much cheaper.

I wondered when this was going to happen. All the best backpacking headlights are LED and very bright....and they use very little energy. However, something to consider with the market of these LED lights is this, it's will push the HID light prices down (if LED's become the hot item)
Anyway,I converted my headlights to HID, and loved it so much that I also bought a couple of the El Cheapo HID lights from Schucks (and they are very bright). So far I feel it was money well spent $99 each for 6".
We had some pretty good forest fires in the recent past here in Oregon, and one night as I was driving through central Oregon the smoke was so thick, I had to slow way down, but when I flipped the off road HID's, and the foggies on, it was much better and could cruise at normal speeds.

It will be many years before LED's overtake HID's in performance.

Currently the state of the art LED's are the 10 watt LED's and they are the only ones suitable for making driving lights. They are also many times more expensive than HID's.

Current LED's are great for cheap bright flashlights. They suck for lighting an object a quarter of a mile away.

Many desert racers run LED's for close up fill lighting and HID's for reaching out so you can drive faster.

I look forward to the day when LED's are advanced enough to replace HID's but I am not holding my breath.

This might be naive, but so be it. I've been considering the HID for an upgrade the the standard lights on my 04 Ram. One shop I visited said that people are just putting them in the low beams. (From pictures in shop it seems like he might be catering to asian hot rods.) His reasoning was most of the time your running around with your low beams. Didn't sound right to me, but thought I'd throw out the question here. Low beams, high beams, both? Thanks:smiley_drive:

Definitely get both. www.bajahid.com can set you up nicely.

When HID first came out, even on the newer Mercedes, they still had halogen high beams. Technology has changed and HID hi beam is available so why not do it right?

My brother's 2001 Mercedes has HID or xenon lo beam but halogen hi beam. I always ask him how it feels that my 1997 Jeep headlights are superior? :D

the life of hid's will be reduced when continually turned on and off such in the case of being on the brights. WHen i run mine, i will have hid as low beams, some very brights high beam halogens, but i will also have 4 other offroad hid to assist.

dont waste your money on putting them in a constant on off spot as they will degrade faster (takes a while)
