Hey all,

I am in the planning stage of building a micro offroad trailer. I live now on Kodiak island and need the something I can beat on in the backwoods. I have recently lost my right leg due to medical issues, so I have had to relook at how i do things. Mobility has really been hard since the loss but I have been making change on this camper to meet my special needs.

So i ask all of you to think deep and let me know what you think I need to add to make this camper more useful and enjoyable?

Thanks all of you,

I'm thinking very small Teardrop camper. Mine is a Timberleaf Pika. Essentially the same outside tire width as my JLU XR with 35" tires. 33" tires on the trailer with the off road suspension. So if the Jeep fits, the trailer fits.

One thing I would consider if mobility is an issue is door placement. If you have the traditional side doors, I would try place the door so that when you sit back into the camper on the bed, you only really need to swing you leg in and lay back. No need to shuffle up or down the matress

I agree with you on the mobility issue. My main concern is getting in and out of the trailer, also with limited mobility the setup is critical for me to get established.

If you can go with a flat back with the door off to one side.. Strate shot to get in and out . If door is off to one side, better storage the next build that is the way we will build with one door in back one on the passage side . The person we are doing for has no legs

That's the plan for this trailer. I will have Gullwing doors on both sides and one in the rear. The other thought I have is putting the trailer on bags for the suspension. This way i can control the height and the kitchen pull out will be at the height for a wheelchair

Do you really need such a small trailer? Scamp makes a nice molded fiberglass 13' and Escape (made in Canada) is coming out with one. You and all your gear could be safe and out of the weather.
There are several units available but you have a major project getting useable with hand rails and other accessories. The cost is high to get them done
