Looking for low top camp/hiking shoes/boots

Thanks Flounder for the info on the Oboz, looking, looking forward to seeing how they feel.
In my nearly 55 years I have never had a shoe come unglued on me before.
I could get it glued, but I prefer the refund since they seemed ill fitting.

I've had many shoes come unglued and price doesn't seem to be a factor. Glue is still glue. There are a ton of good quality shoes out there. I think the biggest challenge is finding the brands that have a cut that fits your foot. For me it is New Balance. I've been wearing their midtop light hikers for many years. I'm also sold on Superfeet insoles. I use them in everything that goes on my feet. They are expensive, but some of them have outlasted several pairs of shoes. I've never found the Vasque brand to fit my feet. One of my buddies threw his in the campfire. It's all about fit.

Before I started wearing Skecher sports last year, I found New Balence were the best tennis shoes.
Now I am sold on the Skechers for best comfort in an everyday shoe at work and home.
No inserts needed with them either.

From what I read about the Oboz, the stock inserts are like the Super Feet.

Keeping the Vasque for snow at work as they kept my feet dry and warm last week.
A carpenter on my crew is going to glue them Monday.

I think the first priority is what fits your foot shape well.

I've been very happy with my Merrells (Moab Ventilators), but YMMV.

The Oboz shoes showed up today, a few days early.
They feel ok so far.
Construction looks beefier than the Vasque, and no two piece sole that might come unglued.

Hey Corey ! I have worn Merrells for over ten years, both hiker style and casual and like the fit and quality. As with many shoes, what I dislike is that when I really like a shoe and want another pair I cannot find the same thing. They change styles at a ridiculous pace.

I just bought a pair of HiTecs off of Amazon to wear all over (on the trail, around town and in the woodworking shop on concrete) and am so far impressed. They were marked down to $27.50 in my size so I'm going to order a spare pair or two. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003L77IXG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I used to buy from REI but found out they support roadless initiatives so they are on my ******** list (as well as Sierra Club, Ducks Unlimited, etc).

No one in their right mind should ever pay REI prices for anything there. Go look, find what you like; go home and order it from the www.

I guess some people do not like giving to the local economy. That's what you're doing when you actually by an item you want in the store instead online. I'm all for saving a buck or two, but all I here as of late, is buy American, Buy American. And yet, you would rather buy online than give back to the community in which you live.

If you meant me, I am supporting the local economy.
The REI warehouse where REI ships everything from that you mail order is down the road from me about 12 miles in Sumner WA.
I use to work there for 8 months when I was laid off from Boeing many years back.
So anything I purchase from REI is shipped from there and putting money back into my local economy.

I bought the Oboz Firebrand II's about four months ago. I've used them as my everyday shoes, and I really love them. After wearing them pretty much every day for that time, I am really impressed. They're very tough and have held up really well, even after many times hiking around sandstone plateaus. Very supportive and very comfortable. They are a bit spendy, but I really like them. I'll probably be buying another pair in the future. It's also nice to support my local economy. I live in Billings, two hours from where Oboz are headquartered.
