Los Angeles Snow Day (40+ Miles through the Los Angeles Mountains)

Went up to Big Bear/Arrowhead area last weekend and did some wheeling and played in the snow a bit. I drove something like 40 miles or so of back-country roads. Started in Green Valley outside of Arrowbear and made my way up to Crab Flats, then west over to the Deep Creek trail-head, then back towards Crab Flats to pick up the road that heads to Holcomb Valley. Drove that for a while and then cut down Polique Canyon to meet up with the highway down by Big Bear Lake then on home.

I passed by two injured Toyotas on the journey as well. I stopped and offered my assistance to both, and was declined both times, but I did chuckle to myself since everyone and their mother told me to buy a Toyota 4 Runner (with the exception of one friend who told me to buy a Rubicon) when I was in the market for an off-roader. The first one I passed was an early 90's 4Runner that was having a front Sway-Bar issue (dont know why he didnt just disconnect it) and the second one was a pretty slick looking FJ that looked like it was modded well, that was having issues with his transfer case engaging 4 wheel drive. My Xterra was a champ, not misstepping once (knocking on wood right now)

It was a good drive and a good time playing in the snow. There was surprisingly a lot of snow cover from the storm. The day was mostly overcast with some light drizzle here and there, but was tolerable and fun none-the-less. It was also my puppies first experience in the snow and she went nuts playing and running and chasing snow-balls. It was a blast just watching her go crazy!

I also took some video with the GoPro, but its an hour long and I dont think I want to bore everyone with it. haha.

The drive up was gorgeous!

These tires (Cooper S/T MAXX's have proven to be very capable and very comfortable both on and off road)

I belong to a range up near Castaic that has steel targets out to 1025yards, and can consistently ring the steel with this rig. Last time I was up there for load development, it was putting 5 shot groups into a .6moa group (including one small flyer thanks to a mid-range gust of wind)

Strong first post. Welcome!

Thanks much! I have been lurking for a while, and finally decided to post. I have learned a lot here and hope to contribute as much as I can. Thanks to this place, I am already in the planning stages of a couple of overland trips, including the entirety of the Mojave Road.

Decided to cut down the video. Its still 14 mins, but there is a lot of beauty that surrounds the trail.

We have a cabin in GVL that survived the fire in '07. Some of your shots show some of the burn area which I have not had the heart to explore since then...so much beauty destroyed. Nevertheless, thanks for your report. Looks like you had fun! :sombrero:
