Low Fuel indicator

I know this is going to be a stupid question so please bare with me.

Does a 1999 Chevy suburban have a low fuel warning light?

I'm trying to figure out what MPG my Burb is getting so I filled it up full and now I'm just about on E without any low fuel warning light. Is there one or should I go put some gas in it?

FYI I never left my tank below half ever since I got it so I really don't know

I know it's a very basic and stupid question so please don't be a jerk about it,

Thanks

I don't think it does.

You don't need to run empty to calculate MPG.

When you fill, reset your mileage indicator. Next time you fill, divide
miles on indicator by gallons added.

One data point isn't great, do this repeatedly for about 10 fill ups and average or analyze the range of results.

I'm pretty sure most EFI vehicles do. Do you have the owner's manual? That should say. On my '04 it's a yellow LED right next to the gas gauge that comes on but I also get a warning on the DIC (Driver Information Center.)

If you're worried that the gauge may be not operating (or just a bulb burned out) you could throw a 1 gallon gas can in the back of the 'Burb. That way if it does run out you should have at least enough to get you to a station.

EDIT: Just pulled a PDF of the owner's manual. Looks like it does NOT have a low fuel warning light, so I stand corrected.

Post #2 outlines how to check fuel economy best. Using the gauge is not nearly accurate enough.

Also note, it is not wise to run electric fuel pump systems low on fuel. The pump is cooled by the liquid fuel itself, and frequently running very low can shorten pump life.

My 98 GMC K1500 and my 2000 Escalade are basically the same as your 99 Burb. Both have a little amber light on the gas gauge that comes on when the tank gets real low. You don't want to run the tank that low except in emergencies because the pump is in the tank and uses the gas to cool the pump. No gas means no cooling and those pumps are notoriously unreliable under even the best of conditions.. You have to drain and remove the tank to replace the pump.

Yes. All vehicles have a low fuel indicator.
When you're too low on fuel the engine will stop. That's an indication to add fuel.
