Low profile metal storage container?

I've been searching for a low profile metal storage container similar to how safe deposit boxes are but, wider. Maybe 3 ft x 3 ft and no taller than maybe 6 in. Having the lid hinged would be a plus. Any idea who manufacturers these or where I can find one?

Milbank also makes the size you want much lighter then the Hoffman but you will need to hinge the provided screw cover yourself.

Well, not nearly as big as you want, but these cash drawers could be useful considering their very low profile, the fact that they lock, and the slide-out action for access.

I would imagine that a sheet metal fabricator could be persuaded to make something for a lot less than the hoffman...

Thanks for the links and replies. The Hoffman box looks like what I'm looking for. Now if I can find one at a price that's a bit more affordable. The slide out cash drawers may not work for my set-up. I plan on using the box to mount on top of my roof rack. The basket has an upward lip along the edge. So, I'd have to accomdate room for when the drawer needs to be opened. Thanks for the suggestion!

Now to see if any areas around me on Craigslist is selling one of those Hoffman (or Milbank) boxes.

You will have better chances at an electrical equipment salvage yard then CL. Contact your local electrical supply house to find a salvage yard in your area.

Don't know if you knew that Tuffy makes a product called the Lockbox, which is an aluminium box designed to be mounted on a roof rack:

It is a little taller than you were looking for (about 11" ). Not particularly cheap either.

I have seen that one but, taller than what I've been looking for and the price doesn't make it appealing.

I used two 81mm motar boxes from Colemans Surplus on my roof rack in front of the RTT.
Works like a champ.
They're not lockable but the latches were designed to be wired closed, enough to keep the casual thief from stealing my spare parts and oil....not worth much at the pawn shop anyway.

Another possible idea for ya. I've had it on my rack for almost 3 years now, holds the majority of my recovery gear. Water proof, lockable, light weight, great box!
