Ok, here's what i did. RAM mount for the same Lowrance fishing model *(which is the same exact housing). Found it at west marine, didnt even have to order it online! Thing works so perfect, its at perfect height, i can easily operate it and i can adjust it to any angle , plus I can rotate it so the co-pilot can see the gps.
Excuse the dust.. the rig is filthy, hasnt been cleaned since the last trip..
pics..
I can still fit my old Garmin behind the new Lowrance if i wanted to too. I just left the mount there. In case i ever needed to use it.
That's the other thing.. ZERO vibes! And im saying that with it screwed into a plastic console piece! Just imagine after i strengthen up the console! This mount is made for this unit. Now i know why everyone buys the RAM mounts. Kind of spendy.. but hella strong (metal) and well worth the money.
Was thinking of addine a 540C to my rig as well as it's a large screen. Did you put a plate under the plastic (backing plate)..... or just screw into the plastic?
This was my solution. The only issue I have is that with polized suglasses on the screen is blacked out looking at it straight on. Viewing it is no problem. If it were a 130 mph race truck I would not recommend it there but at trail speeds it seems to be no problem to look down at it.
The aluminum is 1/8 thick, it extends 1 inch under shifter plastic box. Had to releave box 3/16 inch where the bracket slidles under. I have not replaced the factory rubber piping at the box yet. It ends ups being extremely sturdy, I tested this past weekend on trials rated at 6, no vibrations.
