Lowrance Baja540C & MapCreate 7 questions

Okay, I have a 540C, and I have just installed MapCreate 7. I have a 1GB SD card ready to use, but I cannot not "register" it, because I don't have the LEI card reader.

Is this true? Is there a work around for this?

If there is no work around, where do you get the card reader? http://www.lei-extras.com/ does not have it, nor does http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Accessories/

I'm pretty bummed not to be able to use this thing.

Also, anyone else having issues running MapCreate 7 on Vista?

There is no work around using the Lowrance card reader. It registers and limits the number of cards that can be used with the software. There is a work around that aspect only.

When I purchased MapCreate7 it came with the card reader and a 512 meg card.

Well that's a bummer to hear. I just bought it and it only came with the software DVD. I'm having a heck of a time finding the card reader for sale.

I have the 540 C, just used the SD slot on my computer, worked just fine

I wonder if it's a Vista thing? My built in card reader sees the card just fine, but in MapCreate, if I try to create a map, it keeps prompting me to insert a card (when there is one in the dock already).

Per the instructions, step 1 is to "register the card" which I assume is to serialize it as 1 of the 5 allowable cards. However, the widget that allows me to register the card does not recognize my card because (it claims), I am not using a Lowrance card reader.

And of course, I can't find a Lowrance card reader for sale ANYWHERE! not even on their own website.

You must have the reader to put MapCreate maps on a card. You do not need the reader to move route/track information. The MMC reader can be purchased from http://www.lei-extras.com/store/search.asp. Search for MMC. Look for Part#113-071. It costs $49.95. Wish you were local, you could borrow mine...that is a lot of money for a $5 reader with a trick chip.

I have MapCreate 6 that came with a Lowrance card reader that I have been using for a few years. I just got a new HDS unit that will not work with V6, so I want to buy MapCreate 7.

Will MapCreate 7 work with the old Lowrance card reader that came with my MapCreate 6? Or do I need to buy a MapCreate 7 package that includes a new card reader?
