Hi morrisdl,

Very interesting to hear about your ARB locker build on your LR3. I am considering the same route on mine. But it would be very interesting to see a videodemonstration with and without the rear ARB locker engaged.

Is this something you could show for us? I bet alot of ppl want to see this.

Thanks!

Does anyone use HDC? It seems so gimmicky and at least on my D2, not smooth at all. When we test drove LR4/RRS/L322s last year, the dealer was all about the HDC on the Rover "test" course, and even then I wasn't that impressed that I couldn't do with my own feet.

Is there a reason to use HDC? (I did like on the new rovers how you could adjust the HDC speed (at least on the '11+ models), but I still don't see where I would use it in the field. My cousin has a new TRD-Pro and he's the same way: No HDC and they even have a "crawl control", which I could see as a bit more useful; however, the crawl control sounds like the Toyota's powerplant is going to blow up, weird pings and unnatural noises.

I dunno, if anybody loves HDC, tell me how they use it that's advantageous over the brakes, and I might give it another try.

I rarely used HDC. It's always been ajustable on LR3's via steering wheel mounted cruise control buttons. Unlike the D2, HDC on the LR3/RRS works in reverse, and that is where it's come in handy for me. I have attempted some rather steep and sketchy climbs that that didn't pan out as hoped -:)

The main difference with HDC on a LR4 is that it brakes each wheel independently. You don't have 4 brake pedals, so you can't do exactly the same thing.

I almost always turn it off and wish it didn't come on automatically when you engage rock-climb mode. It's extremely annoying to lift the throttle only to have the brakes suddenly grab because you forgot to disable it.

However there have been a few times when I've used it. Usually on long loose or slippery descents. Buut to be honest like you I generally feel that using Low-1 and manually braking I can do pretty much as well as it can.

I LOVE HDC for going down steep snowy/icy roads. Nothing is worse than having the wheels lock up and have your truck turn into a toboggan on narrow and hilly streets.

Stop, breath, look down, put gear lever into N....change to low range, select D, sport mode, choose gear1,2,3 as needed for very slow and much better controlled downhill driving on snow, etc.

HDC is bull sh I t

Oh, and start with proper snow tires in winter ;)

I always turn off the HDC! I find it annoying that when you select a different driving mode it automatically turns on the HDC for you....
