LR3 owners sound off, which tires?

I am considering the Duratracs, but it sounds like they wear just too quickly. Wish I could get the KM2s in a decent 18 inch size.

What makes you think the KM2, as cool as they are when in good shape, won't actually wear worse than the other ones? It seem they should wear worse than the other ones you mentioned.

The Toyo aggressive tires look interesting although I don't have experience with them.

Regarding "elevated stature", 275/65x18 (32") does not require ANY full time lift nonsense such as shortened rods. In fact, for better handling on the highway, I run at -10mm from stock all the time and don't get rubbing in parking garages at lowered level either. This size would however require rear wheel well "buldge" modification and ideally the same for the steel buldge at rear of each front fender liner at the bottom edge (the steel buldge). With those two mods alone, 275/65x18 works flawlessly even driving around in emergency dropped mode which I found out after an electrical module under the hood died recently. This is like getting to drive at highway speed in lowered mode, or even lower I'm not sure because I was so annoyed I didn't take measurements.

Anyway, take the time to do the above and the 275/65x18 can become your new standard with no worries.

If you're looking for an AT spike, I am running a 40mm lift with toyo open country at2 265/65/18 and they are one of the best on road AT tires I've had. Can't comment on off road strength though.

I almost pulled the trigger on the GY Duratracs. It was the lack of load range that turned me away and that of the sage advice offered up by certain members. In the end, I landed on LT265/65R18/E BFG All-Terrain T/A KO's. If you do not want to be bothered with the bulge mods, then these will more than suffice. Best decision I've made in a long time :)

1K miles so far. Great HW and Off-road rides.

Lack of load range on the Duratracs? What range were you looking for? I'm running E range myself, and I believe they are also available in D if you somehow run light in one of these pigs.

Goodyear Duratrac is not available E range in the size he mentioned of 265/65x18

D range is not in that size either. Only 114SL which is right at the limit for factory minimum spec on stock LR3. At that point, there's not much sense in having such an aggressive tire pattern that won't hold up as well off road.

I will have to take a closer look today at the mods on my truck. I am running Sasquatch rods with 276/65 R18 GY MTRs right now and they rub a bit, but my wife is driving the truck more than me. I am assuming Sasquatch (Dave) did the above mentioned mods as he was using this LR3 for most of his off road fun. I will email him as well as take a look.

Ah, I missed the 265s. I'm running 275/65-18 in E-load

I settled on Cooper Discoverer AT3's 265-65-18 and so far I'm quite happy. On the highway they are quiet and really soak up the bumps. And at $215 a pc plus an $80 rebate, the price was right too. I had these on my D1, albeit a narrower width and they were great on that truck too.

So are a majority of people going with the P rated tires or LT rated tires? I am struggling to make a decision between the two as its another 12 lbs per tire for the LT and it costs more.

You definitely want LT tires on a truck this heavy. I know the OEM tires are P-rated, but if you're on here I'm going to assume you'll be off-road at least a little. Even if you aren't looking to tame the Rubicon you'll want the LTs.

I hear you. Figured I would ask the question. I have already sliced open a stock Conti and would prefer not to slice a tire every time I venture off the road.

I am leaning toward the Michelin AT2s right now based on the 70k+ miles I got out of the last set on my 4runner and that the LR3 will see pavement 90% of the time. I am not getting rid of my P38 anytime soon and she is built for rugged trails. The difference in weight between the AT2s and BFG ATs is 16lbs each tire! The AT2s are 114T while the BFGs are 119R E rated. My gut tells me to stick with the AT2s even though I long for a more aggressive tire. But my wet experience with a set of BFG ATs on a buddy's truck was not good and I have had nothing but a great experience with the Michelin, though they do chunk a bit offroad.

Either way, I will take them out to Hollister hills and see how they perform.

BFG AT KO. Nothing will beat it in regards to on road/off road performance that's not mud. 60k lifespan all day. People who put big mud tires on a vehicle that is on road 90% of the time just want looks. Not performance.

I completely agree - I love my BFGs. The only terrain in which they suck is deep mud, but I avoid that anyway. I will say there are differences depending on size, but the 265/65R18 size is great in snow/ice.

Though I really like the Duratrecs that zelatore has well.
