LR3 Shifting issue

My 16 yr old son and I have been fixing up a 2006 LR3. One of the "Quirks" with it is if you shift to hard/far into DRIVE, it put the vehicle into limp mode. Not only does it do that, but if you go into PARK too soft it won't allow you to take the key out of the ignition. there has to be some way to adjust this, or something needs to be replaced. I am at a loss. If anyone has any ideas, I am all ears.

Thanks
KD

Get your hands on a Gap Diagnistic Tool; a must have for any modern Rover owner.

Then, you can run through the calibrations on the gearbox to include the transfer case.

As @gatorgrizz27 mentioned, there is a shift cable that could have a bent bracket but otherwise the drivetrain is almost entirely electro-mechanical and over time needs to be recalibrated.

The GAP IID Tool will set you free.
