LR3 Towing Capacity?

Can an LR3 tow a 25' Travel trailer that is 4200# dry weight, 5000# loaded? My father-in-law may offer us his trailer and I will have to replace my H3 since the I5 can't pull that size trailer.

LR3 can tow 3.5 Ton so should not be any problem 5000lbs is not even 2.3 Ton so you will have 2600lbs left over

7700lb towing capacity, with one of the best suspension setups for towing that there is. Tremendous brakes versus the H3 as well.

Thanks. I wish I had thought about the LR3 when I was shopping. Was looking at FJC and H3. I do like my 4:1 transfer case.

Watch the tongue weight though. LRUSA says something like 550lbs, but physically stamped on the hitch is 770lbs (probably North American lawyers got involved).

But either way, the tongue weight might not be enough for some trailers.

If you are towing near the upper limits, you might want to consider the generation 3 hitch... some of the early ones have been known to snap in two. Better safe than sorry..

Mike: My LR3 has the Curt hitch on it verses the goofy hang down tow dongle that LR's use. The Curt is inexpensive by hitch standards and is rock solid.
You should look at an 2007 or 2008 LR3 HSE. It will really impress you towing with the air suspension, and the "green house" affect of the windows and glass roof will really wow you after the smaller windows of the H3

I'll cross that bridge if the trailer is offered to us and I need a tow rig. The only thing about LR I don't like is the low profile tires they put on. THe HSE's with 19" rims. There are almost no good tire options except the Cooper Zeon LTZ 255/55R19's. The 18" SE's have better tire options.

It's pretty easy to find a set of 18" wheels. I got two sets for less than $500, and I sold my 19" wheels /tires for $600.

I have 18's on my 2009 HSE with BFG ALL Terrains.
They work great. Minimal rub on the hardest of turns at normal hiway speed. Has only happened once this year.

Does th eLR3 come with a standard hitch behind that bumper cover or do you need to add a proper aftermarket hitch?

The hitch receiver is there, but they have a proprietary "Z" hitch that hangs down (the reference above to the hitch failing under too much load). With the Curt the tongue weight went way up ... how much ... I cannot say at this time, but it did indeed go up.
Also, if you buy a used truck and it doesn't have the proprietary hitch dongle, that piece is over $500 (even used) approaching $700 new. (last time I checked).

and on the truck:

And the Curt hitch is about $150.00 not including installation.
