LR4 Coil conversion?

lr3/4 - buy a truck with working air suspension, then save 2k so that at some point, you can 100% refresh your air suspension (this is worse case)

properly working air suspension on a 3/4 (have had both), is a beautiful and reliable thing

CC, I am with you on this. Can't figure why anyone would want springs over the designed-in air suspension unless the vehicle you bought has lost its air or the one you have has. Really not that difficult to replace them (air suspension). Lots more freedom with air. The height can be adjusted with a IID tool.

just to troll a little, because when air fails on trail your on the bump stops. On my truck that means I’m on the fenders. The coils, well there probably not going to fail.

Happened (failure) to a friend far from home. Down to the bump stops on a rutted dirt trail. We jacked it up to regular street height and pulled the fuses that activate the air suspension and went home. Next weekend replaced the air suspension on all 4 wheels. Failure was due to rust at a metal part under one of the balloons that ate through the rubber and made a hole. Just did them all (4) to be safe. He is a Rover tech and knew want to do.

What do we mean when we say things like 'lots more freedom?'
Are people on coils somehow less free? Do they face oppression and tyranny or something?

Bottomline remains that coils don't fail, that doesn't mean the EAS isn't a good system. Robust and reliable, especially if serviced appropriately. That said, as these trucks age, the value of the coil conversion is that you don't need to save $2k to redo a suspension that may still have aged components in parts. You just remove a variable from the equation.

Well said Ray.

I love my EAS and not in love with any of the current coil options out there. With that said, I would love to see someone build the box to run coils and sell it separately as I know I can make a great set of coils fit in my LR3 that are adjustable in the sense of compression and rebound allow for adjustments in ride control for weight conditions.

@Ray_G is correct, you'll never need to replace a set of coils once installed and the install value is cheaper than EAS replacement. Whether you run EAS or coils, the piston life of the shock/strut is still going to be life limited regardless if its on a spring or bag and since EAS struts are not cheaply or easily taken apart to replace just a shock, we eat that cost there no matter what; coiled setup is cheap and easy in the event you blow or get a leak and unless its completely snapped off, just drive it home. EAS requires an immediate trail repair to get you home.

Coils are a far better long term option in many more ways than just capability of the EAS. They both have plus or minus in the sense of a daily driver, but for an overland rig; I believe coil is the best and only option that makes sense.

Can someone smart please off the EAS delete electronic box sold separately from coils?????

Having just converted to coils (AB 2" plus kit), I'll never miss EAS or the worry over it failing when somewhere off the beaten path. The ride is fantastic on coils; I prefer it.

My wife hates the air suspension in my LR3. It make her car sick all the time. She will pick her coil converted 3 every time over my Air ride.

To each his own but I find the air suspension exceedingly comfortable. My wife gets car sick very easily and loves it. Not to mention you kill one of the best off road features

Do you think My wife takes hers off road? I thank if it is a dual purpose vehicle you are defiantly right. But if this is your toy for camping and fun times off road I don't think it make that big of a difference. I have driven both off road and can say quite honestly that the only reason my truck dose better than my wife's is because I have a rear locker. IFS doesn't flex enough matter.

I still cannot wrap my mind around the idea that someone would negate the design of the original air bags by taking them off and using coils. Especially if they are good and nothing has gone wrong with them. Replacing the air bags really isn't that difficult especially if you have access to a lift.
