M101A2 jitter stop

Sometimes when stopping, even when stopping slowly and carefully, my trailer gets into this mode where it bounces back and forth and the surge brakes keep locking up the trailer brakes.

It's really annoying and sounds horrible. Any idea on how to prevent this?

Its not that bad, just have at it. Check the parts diagram while you work.

I spoke with Calvin Mendenhall with Mendenhall Industries (who manufactures the OEM shock) and he explained how to handle it. Apparently there are two ways depending on if the manufacturer used OEM or knock off shocks.

I'll do a write up about it when I do it in a couple weekends. Won't have time until then.

Do you come at it from the master cylinder side or the hitch side underneath? Can I move the master cylinder without having to disconnect the brake lines? Trying to not have to bleed the brakes again if I can help it.
