Scott's M416 Project

Hello My name is Scott and I am out in Virginia. I have poked around here and you have a pretty good site! I did allot of the work to this a couple years ago and I plan to do more modifications this spring so I wanted to give you all that have not seen it a little history.

The day I brought it home. Saturday 23 Apr 2005

With the frame out of the way, it was time to start on the tub.

The only thing left to do was the bed liner

I have done a few things to Jeep to help level it out. I installed new 4" leaf packs wit 1 " shackle and swapped in a Ford 8.8 It leveled out the trailer quite a bit. I also plan to put new hubs on the trailer this spring so it will have 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern. This will allow the use of the rims I already have on the jeep and I will only need to carry only one spare. This will also reduce the weight of the trailer by at least 100lbs.

This trailer was a blast to build. I would highly recommend a build for any one that just wants an easy project. The result is rewarding. I have used this trailer to haul wood and plan to use it on the trails this summer. I have taken it to the beach and minor off road, but nothing to challenging yet. Hopefully that will change this summer.

Thanks. I like you're bantam too. Nice color lol

I was considering the round fenders on mine, but the angled lines fit my Cherokee better.

Nice!

The first rust pics I saw I was thinking .....oh thats in terrible shape, this will not end well.

Then you go and make a brand new trailer out of it.

Great job!

Picked up the M416 out of storage. The same place I keep the "wifes camper". LOL Did a little work to it last weekend. Mainly cleaning and cosmetic. I had stored a couple axels in it for a while, but they finally sold. If you have ever worked on axles you know the smell. I cleaned up tub and re-painted the liner on the inside with Duplicolor spray-in bed liner. Great stuff and easy for touch up. It looks new again. Here is some better pictures of how it is leveled out with the new springs. I am trying to track down another stock rim now so I can run the NDT type tires on it. I don’t like the tries and rims on it now anymore. I can’t wait till it warms up to do some real work.

Looks great. Did you use the Duplicolor stuff the first time or was that just what you used to touch it up with? How well does the duplicolor bed liner stuff hold up?

I used the first time. It holds well and only needs about one can sprayed in it a year to maintain it. I use two just to get a build up.
