G'day all,

These tyres have been around for a while but I just came across their newly updated website yesterday and found that these tyres are now available in a 255/85x16 tyre size.

Now I know how popular that size is with alot of members here, and Maxxis does state that even thou they are DOT approved they recommend only offroad use for them, I was wondering how good you guys think these would be for offroad expeditions in a range of conditions?

Their overall size is 33.5x10.0x16......almost the same as the Toyo's, thou I think the Toyo's would be more practical tyre overall.

The Maxxis do look tough thou. Opinions/thoughts?

Just Bumping this topic back up to the top.....got a mate who know's a maxxis Rep here and he's going to ask on my behalf about this tyre if they can get a one off order in to OZ for me, as they would be great as a second set of tyres for offroad only.

has anybody else had any experience with them?

Im surprised they havent been mentioned on this site at all given how good the size and tread depth is.

cheers,

Awesome off road tire for rock crawling, but they have a really soft rubber compound and wear really really fast on and off road. If your going to trailer your rig and use it off road on the weekends its a good tire. If not then I'd pass on these tires.

I think they are mentioned in the consolidated 255/85R16 thread here. I found them a while ago too but learned from Maxxis they are not available in the USA in 255/85. And of course they are bias ply and not recommended for the road, making them about as practical as the Michelin 9.00R16 XZLs I had on my F350 ‘for a minute' many years ago.

As much as I like my Maxxis Bighorns, I think if I was going to get a VERY aggressive tire in 255/85 I would buy a set of the recently reintroduced, relatively inexpensive Remington Mud Brutes.

But the Creepy Crawlers are very cool and their super deep tread is attractive. I would love to try a set, just don't know what I would do with them after trying them ☺

I just ordered 4 BFG KM2 255/85 R16 mounted, balanced, tax out the door for 844.00. Seemed too cheap to even shop for Creepys but I do own a set of the Creepy Crawlers. The set I have is the 40" competion compound. I'm told that it's probably the tuffest tire in the rocks as far as puncture resistance. It's a great tire but on the sand and loose the BFG Krawler in competition compound does better. Not a true comparison but I'd say that the BFG Km2 with the closer lugs than the Krawlers would be equal in traction on loose as the Creepys. Given the fantastic ability on the rocks and overall tuffness of the Creepy it's got to be way better than the KM2 I just bought. If hard off road use is in your future then Creepys have to be the best tire available in that size.
