Magruder summer trip

Nice trip, one I've been "lurking at" for +5 years

I'm wondering if you ventured north up Green Mountain Road to the fire tower up there? It continues past the tower and dead-ends near the Selway River. There are a handful of small "secret stash" hot springs accessed from the Magruder, too.

Also, just technical notes: The combined wilderness areas are more on the total of 5 million acres, not square miles. By far the largest combined total in the Lower 48, either way. And, while the Magruder does lead from Idaho towards the Continental Divide, it does not cross it anywhere. West of Nez Perce Pass the trail runs the divide between the Salmon (River of No Return) and the Selway, each tributaries of the Columbia. At Nez Perce Pass, the trail passes into the headwater tributaries of the Bitterroot River, then to the Clark Fork at Missoula, and finally into the Columbia. The nearest point to reach the Continental Divide from the Magruder is Chief Joseph Pass/Lost Trail Pass about 20 miles S-SE from Darby, where headwater streams along the Big Hole River descend into the Big Hole enroute to the Missouri River at Three Forks, west of Bozeman.

Looking forward to getting out there in the aging but stout old Superduty "one of these days". Thanks for posting the TR!
